I’m off to look at one of these Thursday so fingers crossed.

So had a good look at this car tonight....spent some while with the chap. All looked really promising. Bodywork excellent - a few imperfections but nothing you would call excessive for age, and seemed a well cared for example. I was starting to get that feeling you all know what I mean when you think you’ve found your next car!
I was told full OPC history, but then when looking through the paperwork and service book discovered the car has only been serviced a total of 3 times, and in the current owners 8 year possession it had only been serviced once! Deal breaker surely?? Bit gutted if I’m honest! nooo

Sorry to hear it. Moving forward, make a note to go through the service history on the phone - dates, mileage, type of service carried out, who did it and include date/mileage for brake fluid change and who carried it out.

This telephone screen might save you a wasted journey in the future.
Sadly it is not uncommon - people cite many inaccuracies in their descriptions of their car when they are trying to sell it. I even witnessed this myself at some prestige/specialists. I never enquired or visited any private seller but was made aware of the risks by some good specialists.

I hope you find what you're looking for in this season.

Punch him in the face for wasting your time and trying it on nooo nooo nooo

What was his explanation for it not being serviced? Unless you are getting an amazing deal walk away.

Come on - 8 years and just 1 service, and lies = punch in the face and move on.

Why would somebody even do that? I know we can be a bit obsessed on here but even my wife has her Fiat 500 serviced near enough on time.

I assume he didn’t even claim to have self serviced, let alone had oil/filter receipts?

I was just starting to think the current prices were not going to hold but I see that the only* black manual coupe on AT has just had a deposit put on it. It was advertised at £65k despite a healthy 50k miles driven. Good spec with buckets, etc, but still. That means there are now only 13 manual coupes available on AT which is the lowest I’ve seen it in a couple of years of watching.

5 of these are blue @Phil997. Good time to do that swap Thumb . I genuinely like them in blue so I’m surprised. And there are only two in any spec that would pass SBSP’s mileage limits Floor

*there has been a CatD in black come on recently, but no clean record ones

Im trying to buy one of those cars Thumb

Not bad considering it is a manual with £35K and has the factory aerokit and 2 year warranty. That grey interior is a little dull but that's subjective of course.

I think the chap looking for one of these on the other thread could do a lot worse than upping his budget and bagging this one. May be able to negotiate some discount or free servicing to soften the increase.

I could live with that interior as there is a good bit of carbon to break things up and further improvements could be made if desired. Got to love an aerokitted Turbo - but mine isn't so that's one compromise I suffer!

It's looking like £80k to buy at your milage entry point Surprised

That's this OPC car on just 35k and nearly £20k in change

Final point deleted - repeat point - each to their own Smile

Amazing how some people think like that. I had exactly the same when I was looking to buy a Ducati. They need their belts changed every 2 years or 12k miles (if i remember rightly). I found one, bloke said it had only done 3k since belt change. Great. Turned up, transpired that bike had only done 3k over last 8 years and so should have had 4 belt changes in that time. Bloke happily fired her up and revved her etc. I was just waiting for the belts to snap.

74,995 actually for the Riviera car Grin The problem with all these low milers is the SH or lack of it, they all seem to have been owned by idiots who dont think they have to be serviced when they dont do many miles Dont know
nooo
There is method in my low miles madness, I have only ever bought low or very low miles cars (porsche) and I have always turned a profit or at least not lost on sale which man maths=more money for a better one next time

Thumb

Despite claims to the contary show me anyone on the forum who hasnt bailed at some point, despite buying a car for life...

Errr I joined this forum, I knew exactly what I wanted.... then I didn’t PC

The budget grew, egged on by certain forum members, at purchase day we ended almost £30k ‘over budget’ but very very happy Smile

I won’t get into the 996 is an ugly duckling debate, I like both 996 and 997 but prefer 997’s Hand

However what is the car actually worth debate, advertised price is more or less what you pay minus a modest discount, in my head I’m Richard Rawlins cutting the asking price by 90% - let it rip potatoe chip Floor
In reality the percentage is modest and someone posted back to me this advice ‘you can’t expect to get a discount more a salesmen’s monthly salary’ I think that is a good yardstick, Dealers have to live and eat too
Of course there are lots of ‘outliers’ so please don’t bombard me with ‘what about ‘ yes I know.

When I made a purchase I needed a discount to cover the warranty dance with the OPC and a little more, I got that and I was happy, so in my head I was all square. When I look at the cars that are similar spec right now and 5 months on I smile because yes I paid top dollar but not too much Smile

I hope Floor
