Chaps,

Unfortunately dropped my 986 2.5 Boxster on some black ice last week and it's been classed as a write off :nooo:

2 questions -

Is it worth buying the car back from the Insurance company and trying to sell the bits? (It's not driveable due to bent front subframe and damaged radiator).

Do any Porsche salvage companies buy a whole car? (Don't really have the space to store a car and slowly take it apart to sell individual parts).

Second question - replace with another 986 (2.5 or 2.7) or stretch the budget to a 2.7 987.1?

Seen some at around £7k, but are they likely to be a money pit at that price?

Bad luck :nooo:

Salvage companies would buy the whole car but whether they'd be prepared to pay what you'd want for it to make it worth your while I don't know. They're used to buying direct from Insurance companies, without a middle man.

If you haven't got the room to store a whole car you could strip out the bits worth selling and get the shell collected by a scrapper.

Regarding a replacement only you can decide but if budget allows I'd always look to replace any car I'd owned with a newer and/or better one.

All you can do is ring a few specialist salvage yards and ask what they'll give you and then compare that to what the ins co wants. Suspect the salvage outfits will make very, very low offers.
