PostPosted: Thu Mar 08, 2018 8:00 pm    Post subject: Low cost and low insurance daily car Reply with quote

Hi guys, as per title, looking for a low cost, low insurance daily car.

Thought a Lexus IS250 would be a good choice. Can get a 2006, 60k miles, high spec car for around £4k, but insurance is £1,000!

For reference I'm 26 years old.

My daily commute is 6 miles to and from work, so not concerned by mpg. My budget is around £4k but need insurance to be no more than round £500. Any other suggestions please? Needs to be reliable so preferably German or Japanese.

What else do you want it to do? Hatch back vs saloon? 4 seats or 2? Diesel vs petrol etc

So, 6 miles each way, under £4K, German and cheap to insure?

How about one of these?

Petrol. Other than that, I'm open to suggestions.

Haha I'm a keen cyclist but need a car! Occasionally I go on longer drives to see clients.

If you want it to be reliable and won't be going that far in in often I would go for a smaller newer car personally. If there are any bills parts will be cheaper than a Lexus or larger car.

Try a search on auto trader with low tax + insurance + price as your only restrictions and see what comes up. Maybe something like a fiesta or fiat 500 might suit Question

On a serious note then...

Son has a 61 reg Polo Match - nice spec car, with about 40K on the clock cost me £4,800 - insurance is not too bad (for a new driver) at just about £1,000 a year - must be lower for you - nice and light to drive around town and it feels well made.

You might think about a Skoda Fabia - essentially a Polo with a different body - they get good reviews

Anything interesting will cost a fortune to insure and run... over that short distance a big engined car will drink fuel as it will barely warm up.

These interest me strangely... early hybrid

Harry Metcalfe of Evo had one, loved it.

And these... ahead of its time

Or get a stonking all in monthly payment deal on a new hatchback

I would love an insight!

Really for that distance if you have access to another car, a Nissan Leaf (with battery owned not leased) would serve you well. Set the time you want to leave and its all defrosted an warm ready for you every day.

With the uptick in interested in electric cars, you probably won't lose any money over a few years. I was looking a while back, and the same age cars are the same price now.

Thanks for the suggestions.

To clarify, my commute is 3 miles each way, so 6 miles in total. Therefore I really don't care about MPG.

I wouldn't buy an older Hybrid, the batteries will be knackered and would cost more than the car to replace.

Looking a low cost lease deals.
