Can anyone help me please and let me know how to find a cheap specialist for Pre purchase inspection for a 996?

More importantly, whereabouts in the country is the car you want inspected. :?:
 
There is no *cheap* Porsche inspection. Budget on £300 with a specialist that really knows the model and what to look for.

Ensure you understand exactly what is included/not included and negotiate items that are extra to the inspection based on the model you are having inspected. There is no such thing as a standard PPI. Each specialist will have his own checklist. I used one that had all the carpets up looking for crash damage repairs, examined all body welds,interrogated the ECU/DME and print out and interpreted it and validated mileage, carried out HPI test and gave me the result etc.

Would that include stuff such as a leak down and compression test?
 
You need to ask. No such thing as a standard PPI.

If I was buying a m96 or 997.1 I'd ask for borescope.
Not fir a Turbo though. For Turbo, Compression test depends on DME data.

For Turbo additional checks as personal choice.
Also any 996 or 997, manual v tiptronic require extra checks on PPI.
Both suffer known issues.
 
As others have said budget £300 for a PPI and borescope , money very well spent and not something to scrimp on or you could end up with problems.
If the cars south of Birmingham and you need a fully trained mobile Porsche tech who knows what to look for re borescope and a full written ppi report send me a PM and I can let you have his number.
 
You can get a PPI for as little as £150 but £300 is closer to the norm .

Each garage probably has their own way of looking .. for instance i wouldn,t be pulling up carpets to look for damage .. you would need to remove the PU,s to make that check effective as well so closer to £500 at that point .

Borescope check is extra and normally around 1.5 hours at the garage labour rate .

Either way you will get a big list .. its down to the garage to explain whats actually needed as any item suffereing wear and tear will be included but will not necessarily need any attention .
 
Each model has its known list of issues to be checked. Low mileage cars need to have the mileage verified and validated by DME/ECU data. Non-mezger cars a borescope should be on the list. Some cars arouse suspicion around accident damage - it happens. I know of an instance where someone bought an accident damaged wreck turbo - discovered in a POST purchase Inspection!

A good specialist knows instinctively what to check - but don't rely that it is always included in it - make your own list of what you want and cross-check if its included and if its not, then ask for it and be prepared to pay extra.

A PPI can be as basic as paying for one hour labour and a guy in greasy overall notes things in a grease-smudged jotter and gives you verbal feedback but no written report. To on the other hand a good 2-3 hrs labour, with a full written report. Typical price will be £300. Borescope will be extra for many independents so the cost may be just short of £500 with borescope and full inspection.

I am not an enthusiast of mobile PPI's - better though they are than no inspection. The reason is that the car needs to go up in the air, the under-trays need to be removed to get at everything and have a good look. One friends Post Purchase Inspection revealed oil leaks all over when the car was raised and the under-trays were removed. It required an engine-out job to fix it! The seller had tried to disguise it by steam cleaning the under-trays which were not noticed on inspection as the car was never put up on a ramp.

As with any purchase caveat emptor
