Word of warning... 'Modern Classic Car Co' ROGUE TRADER

Good morning folks

I am new here and in the market for a 996. I came across these chaps in Scotland and specifically this car:

http://themodernclassiccarco.com

Has anyone used these chaps to purchase from? Can anyone recommend someone to do a PPI on the above car?

Thanks

Mark Heron of The Modern Classic Car Co

Hopefully, some of you folks will be pleased to read the following post...This is an update to the thread regarding a Mark Heron (or whatever other alias he happens to be using) of The Modern Classic Car Co of Carbeth House, Killearn, Glasgow, G63 9QB.

Mark Heron recently formed another limited company by the name of "Modern Classic Car Solutions Ltd (Company number: SC580272) of which Mark Heron is shown as the only Director, appointed on the 31st October 2017. His month and year of birth are shown as December 1976. The address given as the registered office is: Strathclyde Suite, Carbeth House, Killearn, Glasgow, G63 9QB.

Mr Heron is currently under investigation by various agencies in regards to his business practices, including violation of Trading Standards, misleading advertising practices, and malpractice in regards to Consumer Rights. We will keep this forum updated as matter progress.

The first of hopefully many law suits has already started, but in the meantime, we recommend that all the information published in this forum in regards to Mark Heron is read extremely carefully and taken into account, before any potential buyer makes a decision to trade with Mark Heron, Sylvester Heron, The Modern Classic Car Co, or Modern Classic Car Solutions Ltd, or his ebay trading title/username "modernclassiccarco"

We are also aware that more than two disgruntled buyers are arranging third party viewings on some of Mark Heron's stock, so hopefully they may have further information to add, once their contacts have viewed the vehicles, on the pretext of speaking directly to Mr Heron to discuss his misdemeanors.

I suspect the Red Devil is someone I could name from personal experience (Mods will probably prefer that I do this offline), who has run a succession of one-man setups, latterly specialising in used Porsches.

The photography is good, always in the same location (grounds of a community building - church/hall? - somewhere in the Trossachs) to which I understand he has privileged access. His companies seem to last a couple of years or so, then disappear and re-emerge under a new name.

He had some bad press a few years ago when operating as Buchanan Motor Company, and I believe he was in partnership with Stuart Paterson (SP Autobahn in Stirling) but parted in acrimonious circumstances. I came close to buying a 3.2 Targa from his previous company, the Throttle Shop, a couple of years ago.

The description and pics (same location) were superb but I had a slight niggle about provenance. I arranged a PPI by Glasgow OPC (I would have preferred SP Autobahn for this but he refused to take it there), and the report on this raised far too many serious questions and problems for my liking. On the strength of this I withdrew my interest, at which point the seller became quite unpleasant and aggressive. Glad I walked away from that one!

I'm an exiled Scot these days so perhaps a local resident can confirm the reputations of the local specialists for PPI are still good - SP Autobahn, George Morrison (Rutherglen), Motortune (Shotts).

Yes thats him

I've dealt with him a few times (sold him 2 bought 2) and he's always been ok with me although the last one was probably about 4 years ago. He's a confident individual thats for sure but as exiled yorkshireman i've eaten bigger for breakfast!

The PH thread is quite odd. Pictures taken in same place as Border Reivers it would appear. I know they are 2 brothers same surname now trading as modern classic car co

I simply wish that the original advert had some more pictures of the car.

It would be good if it also mentioned the engine size. Assuming 3.4 for year. Looks clean, but I bought a 60,000 mile 3.4 Carrera 4 for £12k late last year, so might want to look for a lower mileage one.

Buy with your eyes open and do not believe a word they tell you.

Do your own diligence, get an independent PPI carried out, including bores scoped, HPI & inspect the car in detail, inspect the paperwork in detail and make sanity checks to ensure the service history is correct, call the garages, try and speak to previous owners and get all of the information you require before providing a deposit or concluding a sale.

Provided you do all of the above you will at least know what your buying.

Ultimately little is insurmountable when it comes to cars, it all comes down to money.

The pair of brothers that run the business have a reputation, that is not to say that all the cars they sell are bad, just do your diligence.

Word of warning... 'Modern Classic Car Co' Negative Review

Mods - hope this is OK because if I had seen before buying I would have found a car locally or spent the money to go and look and not believe the dealers false promises

Excitedly, I bought a car from a Glasgow outfit run by Stephen Boag called Modern Classic Car Co. Without lots of details, a short summary.

Spent ages on the phone, 6 month warranty, just had 7k spent on recommissioning car after 10 years mostly in dry storage, loads of photos. Full history, loads of stamps, perfect car (for a 20yr old car). All promises made.

Offered to arrange delivery rather than me having to go up on a plane and drive the 400 miles home. 'If it's not as described, no problem, and remember it's got a 6 month mechanical and electrical warranty'

Grey import, stamped book but no receipts, loads of issues (mostly niggle) and refusing to do anything. The warranty isn't, it's his personal guarantee which is worth zero.

So now have a car which will be a worthwhile investment after I spend a couple of grand to fix issues it was delivered.

I'm just instructing a solicitor, but if this post stops one other person being ripped off, it's worth it. So please, treat as a private sale from this guy and definitely Buyer beware :cop:

Thanks. 1st would have been useful a month ago lol

I've been trying to talk with this guy thru phone, email etc for a month and no responses. He's been advised I'm going to take legal action and I won't go into detail as it can bore people.

Never given anyone a bad review before: not my style. But wouldn't want to see anyone else take this fella at face value

Hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted....
