So, my beloved turbo is off for an OPC (stamps, think about the stamps) major when I get home next month.
It's coming up 6 years old (nearly 30k miles) so I believe it's PDK service time. Is it ok to request both transmission and clutch oil be replaced? And what's this I'm hearing about 'software upgrades'??
My PDK feels a bit lumpy sometimes but I wonder if that's because I jump from the wife's Macan GTS which has a super sharp and crisp (and new) PDK.
Thanks for any feedback

Yes i have my PDK oil done late last year. I would imagine they'll update the software as a matter of course, i'd ask anyway, it's worth doing. Get them to do a clutch re-alignment while it's in, that's most likely the cause of the lumpyness, once thats done it'll come back super smooth :thumb:

I expect it'll be due front transmission oil too. Unless they have extended it.

OPCs seem to vary regarding software updates.

Thanks fella's. Points noted :thumb:

The AWD transmission oil change is included as part of the PDK Service (which is Air Filter, AWD Oil, PDK Fluid and Drive Belt). Mine's going in for its 6 year service in a few weeks and I've had three different prices from three OPC's!! One OPC said some people have noticed improved gear changes after the PDK service - he added "There's a reason Porsche say it's required at 6 years." He may have a point.

Ade,
My car is also due the PDK service as soon as I: home , was due in jan actually but it's tucked away until I'm back ....
I have been quoted 1200 of our GB pounds for the privilege....is that the going rate or should I ask another OPC for a quote .....?

I asked for my 2013 981CS and was told £580 + VAT. The price apparently includes a new oil pan at £260.

The oil pan was upgraded for 981/991 series and was fitted under warranty IF oil was dripping; sweating was not sufficient.

Luckily my Centre Service Manager noticed a drip so did it under warranty. The old oil pan was aluminium grey and the new one is black.

PDK oil change is at 6 years up untill 2014 when it changed to 12 year intervals .

Gear oil in the PDK is at 12 years and in principle is no different to a manual gearbox .

You can change it sooner but imho it will make no difference .

If the software update is done as standard then thats a new thing as it never used to be .. i would ask if it is or if they can do it on booking or on the day .

Please let me know if it is standard though :thumb:

EDIT ..

The gearbox has to cool down to less than 30 degrees to set the oil lvl .. this is not always possible in one day .. at work i ask for 2 days just in case .

No as Dermot has said, they have quoted you for replacement of the gear oil which is required at 12 years/ 112k miles and involves a new sump pan, even so £1200 sounds really high.

The clutch oil that you need at 6 years/ 56k miles should only cost you £250 or so.

No it is not standard, I spoke to my OPC about it and the line they gave me is that if it is working fine leave it. If you have clunky changes etc it is worth doing but it may not improve it and could even make it worse.

Agreed, my OPC told me exactly that and needed the car for 2 days.

   I would seriously speak to another OPC or a specialist, I don't recall what i paid but it was nowhere near that amount at Exeter OPC!

I had clutch oil changed on PDK few weeks ago, made gear change a lot smoother.
Was told 12 years for gearbox oil change.

I thought as much....... I shall be talking to an alternative, who I used to use , I have been losing faith in the OPC I have used recently, the option is just a little further away but I can make a day of it .......

Thanks for the info guys , that's the beauty of the forum.......!

@ maph

Thanks for that .. i didnt think any OPC would do that if not needed .

I know from past experience that updateing software is not something we do unless we have to .. many broken cars in my OPC days due to software updates falling over .. Its much better now though i hasten to add !!

Ie .. Panemera in for an update in the early days of them .. waiting job .. it went tits up so off i went to the service advisor ..

Its broken it i said .. how long till you can fix it says he as the customer is waiting ..

Well says i ..

Reading have had the same thing with one of their updates and they still have a broken car after 6 weeks .

Ill put a ticket in says i .. a loan car or a sleeping bag might be in order for the customer though .

Agreed software update can corrupt ECU's so most manufactures don't do it unless there is a problem. My Mum brought a new Ford Focus with a semi auto gearbox. Ford have had issues with the box and it went in for a software flash and it failed. A week later and a new ecu latter she had it back. BMW's suffer with infotainment systems falling over and need to be replaced after some updates. BMW like to flash all modules at the same time. It has left some customers with large bills as a lot of manufactures will not cover failures when flashing.

PDK is very different to the old slush box or manual TM, sorry dermort changing it early is better whatever Porsche thinks. The plates have friction between them and the oil is an important part of this. Not sure if there is a service difference from c2/c4 c2s/c4s to Turbo but there is a lot more power going thro a Turbo. I come from a GTR and we changed the TM fluid every 2 years max! Had that puppy for 9 and half years....

The GTR had swarf in the early boxes so that needed flushing but on testing oil on a hard used TM it would break down. Also, you can get crap in it by lack of use water etc

yes a relearn is also good and you will feel it on driving the first time...

Porsche charge way to much for Pentosin FFL3 suggest get the silly Porsche stamp and get a indy to change in between
