Service OPC or Indy

My car is due a major service and I'm stuck between keeping the OPC stamps in the service book or going to my indy.

Mines a 2010 C4S with 51k on the clock.

Would an indy stamp in the service book put people off if I came to sell the car ?

Cheers
Jon

Wouldn't put me off.

Didnt put me off buying mine :thumb:

It depends on who the Indy is.

Heres a thought... if you are keen to keep the OPC service, then just get the basic scheduled service work done there... there are deals to be had on older cars, in fact the menu price at my local OPC is not wildly different to indies. And you get better coffee and an interesting loan car.

All other work, have done at your indy.

Either way, stamps from a respected indy would not bother me at all.

Ask the OPC for fixed price service costs. Not sure if major includes plugs, but ask. When I last compared, there was very little in it between fixed price OPC servicing and using an Indy. In fact I discovered a couple of indys were dearer than a main dealer for the same service and using OEM parts not supplied by Porsche and the warranty on the work was not as long.

This is for service prices. Not non-routine work such as rebuilds.

Having a full OPC service history was certainly a deciding factor for me when l purchased the car. I will service at OPC and use my local indie for everything else. When looking to buy, a full Porsche service history will have a bearing on the resale.

Didnt put me off! However, my current Indy is only £80 cheaper per year than an OPC. I just trust them more.

Wouldn't put me off. Key thing is a VAT invoice with the work & parts clearly documented, eg. mobil 1 oil and mann oil filter.

There are certainly some Indys out there that will be better than some OPC's - BUT I would say proceed with caution if your car has a full OPC service history and is still only 8 years young and your thinking of moving away from it.

The reason I say this, is if you come to sell, a full OPC service history will alienate no potential buyers, whereas a non Porsche service history will alienate some - especially if they are comparing your car to one with a full OPC history.

As others have suggested, it may be a good idea to get the bare minimum service done by the OPC, just to keep the main dealer history intact and then get all the actual work done by a good Indy, or even do it yourself if your capable - which is what I tend to do.

I wouldn't be too impressed with a full OPC history after reading some of the documented disasters on some of my service invoices.

Based on experience of both, I use an indie 100% (trust and quality of care), so it wouldn't put me off if the indie stamp was from a proper and respected Porsche specialist, but not everybody knows the difference and an indie stamp could reduce your buyers pool compared to a full deck of OPC stamps on a 2010 car.

I'd bite the bullet on the service, negotiate best price you can and use your indie for everything else, including any extra work the OPC potentially comes up with at the service. If you think you will keep the car for years to come, different ball game, take it where you think it will get the best service :thumb:
