I've had an issue with my car on my way down tonight, the header tank cap has given up holding pressure. If someone knows how to transfer names they can have my place in exchange for a few pax laps.

Thought the session was great and apart from the convertible 997(very unpredictable and wouldn’t indicate to allow people to pass safely), driving standards were brilliant! The old 911 on crossply tyres was going superbly! Had a great evening.

Was a great evening!

Sad to see some 911s not pass the noise test...its a race track?!?! Some GT3 passed and some didn't? strange.

Massive thanks to Paul and Joel for the "days of thunder style" pit stop tyre pressure drop in the last 15 mins.. was such a difference to the car!

1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 2

thanks all who came down and got time on the track, weather was good

I must address the noise test issue, as there is something not quite right at Brands Hatch.

my 993 with modified exhaust, that runs 101db +

1st up their 3/4 calculation, which was based 6700 max revs which he wanted 5250 rpm, which came out at 104db+ failed then after questioning the maths he then asked for 5000rpm

noise test = 103.7 on the right and 102.2 on the left
that was a complete surprise

I then attempt a modification, which brings it down to 100.1db, success and I'm on track except the mod fails after a few laps, although I haven't tripped any of the drive by noise meters at any time at this point.

So I'm off track and he's saying the car will fail, then I ask him to retest it to get a reference so I can work on a better fix but then it comes up at 101.5db and I've passed after doing nothing and a difference of 30 mins between noise tests.

Dont know

there is actually a simple and safe mod that's we've found locally that reduces the noise by 1.5db for straight tip and round exhausts, which may need to be the must have 996/997/991/Cayman mod

Thumb

although later on my day came to an end when my brake master cylinder failed, but that's another and more lucky story Surprised

Were the vehicles that failed the noise test fully up to temperature?
When cold, ignition timing is retarded to light off the cat's quicker, I wonder if this had anything to do with it (Although i would expect most were up to temp after the drive to Brands)

My 997 C2S with PSE snuck in at 101dB.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first time on track with great driving standards.
Will definitely be back for more next year thumbsup

Not the case.
Photo angle

Straight on shot showing the existing issue.

It’s a moderate divert of the exhaust gas be enough to reduce db’s by up to 2.

This was in the paddock - Genuine RS Club Sport. I can't think why it wasn't seen on track. Grin

What a great evening at a great track!

On my noise test I registered 102.7db at 5200rpm and then after some discussion I was tested again at 101.8 at 5000 so I was allowed on. This is a on a 993 with standard exhaust but with sports airbox. No problems on track.

I had an initial scare on the first few laps waiting for the 997 convertible to 'invite' me to overtake and I made a move to pass at the same time as someone behind me. Apologies to whoever that was.

Other than that it was a great evening with great driving standards and most people not hanging about. There was a nice variety of cars on track.

Thanks to Ian for taking me for a few laps in his 997. That was an eye opener...the power...the grip!

So what are the brown marks then? Don't get me wrong I really like the idea, but there is a nasty mark on the pu just above the exhaust pipes and at either side to a less extent. I've seen these before with aftermarket bolt ons / exhaust and they were burn marks?

Nice to meet you.
It was a good evening.
Still can't believe we've not crossed paths in 20 yrs of going to the Ring.
Did you get picked up and was it late?
