I saw this mentioned on a Facebook group and after a bit of Googling found the part number of the kit here:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums...-blink-turn-signal-relay-mod.html#post4090175

and a guide here:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/325688-3-blink-turn-signal-relay.html

The relay is 000 953 227A and the complete kit is 000 998 229A

£41 here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINW-...981680&hash=item20fd1d6580:g:gnwAAOSwYGFUx3o8

Has anyone else done this mod to their 996?

Bit dangerous innit?

Idicators are there to indicate you're turning. From a safety point of view they should be flashing until the manouvre is made, not just 3 flashes from the moment of activation.

What's the benefit over just indicating? You still have to move the stalk.

With Alex on this, although my last 2 company cars had this 'facility'.
I was taught you indicate until the manouver is complete.
:dont know:

Hi Alex,

You my be unfamiliar with the operation of '3 flash' that is now fitted to most modern cars including new model Porsches, so people may view tham as a update.

When you move the indicator stalk in the direction you want to indicate and then let go before fully engaging the stalk, the indicators will flash 3 times only. Usefulish on motorways when you just want to change lanes but I think it has limited use elsewhere. Most motorway lane changes can be completed in '3 flashes'.

I think it ranks along with cruise control, auto lights and auto wipers as being pretty pointless. On my other cars, I have only used this feature on the motorway and along with the other features mentioned, something I wouldn't pay extra for!

Plus, I don't think these indicators are considered dangerous otherwise they wouldn't get through type approval!

My new car has strobing indicator lights, look cool but utterly pointless! salesman told me they were a safety feature!!

My new shape S3 has this fitted, as does my friends 987 Boxster, plus every modern car I've driven recently so it's now seen as standard equipment by most. VW wouldn't sell a retro fit kit if there wasn't a demand for it either.
I find it useful when changing lanes as you just need a light press of the stalk.

Given how fragile the 996 stalks feel and that it seems quite common for part of the stalk to break preventing the indicators from staying on I thought that this would be quite a good mod to do.

I thought the general rule on motorways was 2 flashes before you even start to make your move and then only cancel your signal once you are in that lane?

Still think the 3 flash thing is more dangerous than the standard method.

I've done this mod to my 996.1 and madam's '52 plate Boxster and, speaking for myself, like the extra functionality, especially for motorway moves. 3 blinks seems enough and is a lot better than the none that now seems more common.

The fitting guide is here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums...-blink-turn-signal-relay-mod.html#post4090175

This is the kit and special tool you will need. The tool is a few quid on ebay. Get the VW kit that has the terminals attached as in the pic - they fit the plugs in the car.
