1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 2

PostPosted: Mon Oct 02, 2017 10:13 pm    Post subject: What Radio (in-Car Entertainment) do you have in your 993 ? Reply with quote

Following on from a recent post.

Let's see what Radio you have in your 993!

Official Porsche Radios were the following

M320 RADIO "PORSCHE CR-11"
M324 RADIO "PORSCHE CR-10"
M326 RADIO "PORSCHE CR-21"
M329 RADIO "PORSCHE CR-210"
M330 RADIO "PORSCHE CR-31" 97
M331 RADIO "PORSCHE CR-1

CDR as both a Cassette and CD option

Otherwise you're into the optional 'upgrade' Blaupunkt models which were all official options per the image below

M329 RADIO BLAUPUNKT TORONTO SQR 48
M330 RADIO BLAUPUNKT TORONTO SQR 46
M333 RADIO PARIS RCR 41
M334 RADIO/CASSETTE PLAYER BREMEN RCM 42
M336 RADIO "DUESSELDORF RCR 84

I wonder if anyone is still running OEM or even one of the even rarer Blaupunkt options ?

UK Market

Did also run the very popular SONY XRC - 620 RDS Radio Cassette Unit

or the CDX-5290 RDS Cassette CD unit and 10 speaker Hifi Unit

Mine has a Sony radio cassette (xrc 620) with a cdx91 10disc in the boot.

Also with the joystick controller mounted up by the rear view mirror!

Just checking on the UK market, the Varioram cars had 2 options outside the Porsche Kit which were all OPC fit.

Sony or Blaupunkt as below.

Some options from Becker

The Traffic Pro 7820, CD based screen Sat Nav

Followed up by their excellent Cascade 7944 which was popular on 996.2 models when it came out in the mid 00's

When I first purchased my car it had the Blaupunkt Toronto cassette unit. The LCD display was mullered so I whipped it out and have been running the RS blanking plate ever since! So no tunes for me nooo

I've got a Becker Cascade in mine too. I've still got an original Sony CD/Radio in the cupboard, although not sure why I'd ever want to put it back in.

Becker Cascade after an Indanapolis Pro (which looked better) the 944 has a Porsche Classic (which I didn't like in the 993)

Sony originally swapped for Becker Indanapolis Pro, suits the car well - just look at Endoman's pic above thumbsup

Becker Indianapolis Pro 7950 (amber display). Because it looks more period than a Cascade Thumb

Mine had the Sony in place when I bought it. Whipped it pretty much straight away as it was my least favourite part of the car.

Now running a Blaupunkt (although not one of the ones listed) with a pure DAB adapter.

Sony XR-C620RDS Radio Cassette + Sony CDX 606 10-CD changer

Now removed - together with 1 mile of cable...

Original Porsche branded Becker CDR21 with a Loudlink unit hidden behind glovebox attached to bulkhead and plugged in to the rear of headunit.

One of my favourite stealth mods as it all looks stock (except for tiny microphone over on the RH side of dash) but with the benefit of all modern functions: Bluetooth 'phone connectivity for calls, sat nav app and music streaming plus ability to play music from huge capacity SD card.

Had a brief dalliance with a modern Sony headunit that worked extremely well but the chief downsides were (1) the silly over-complicated numerous settings needing to be reset whenever the battery was disconnected (2) The rats nest of cabling created by the adapter kit necessary if you don't want to cut the original and (3) the incongruous look.

I have a Sony in mine, and can see from this thread most people swap them out for a Becker. Out of interest why? Do the Beckers sound better or just look better?

Cheers
