Hi all! Put my 996 carrera 2 for sale last week and still had no interest not a single phone call, I'm certain once somone actually views it they'll buy it it's literally perfect!, aero kit, manual gearbox, full service history, factory limited slip diff
Have I listed it at the wrong time of the year or too much at 16k....? Thanks ricky

Patience I would say, look at what friends green porsche are selling aerokitted cars for.
It would sell better in spring when more people are looking for a new toy imo but you should still find a buyer for it.
Price looks about right for the condition that it appears to be in. Silver though is the most common colour for these but it should still sell.
If it was any cheaper I might be buying it as an additional toy!!
Good luck and be patient

The nearest one they have to mine is a yellow one with more miles on for 24k lol, I'm staggered it's not sold yet, I've put it on auto trader now aswell as on here but only been on there a day

I don't know if this helps but my experience as a recent private buyer was that most on the market are over priced in relation to guide values.

I have access to CAP & Glasses and came to the conclusion that those selling (including dealers) are steadily pushing values up or at least helping to sustain them. I threw the book away in the end!

Dealers probably don't worry too much about over-aged stock with an appreciating marque.

Not an area of the market I have previously been used to.

Mine was reduced by £2k from initial advertised price and all of a sudden fell within my search budget (just).

If you want a quick sale then it's about price, if you are not in a rush then it will sell at some point if it is as perfect as you say.

Copying this over from the advert mate, hope you don't mind:

1998 Coupe 84,850 miles Manual 3.4L Petrol
For sale is my beautiful Porsche 996 carrera 2 that I've owned for about 3 years now! Been a brilliant car loved it that much I'm selling it for it's bigger brother the 996 turbo! It's the spec I was really hoping for so 3.4 so dual row ims and less chance of bore score!, carrera 2 which I preferred over a carrera 4, and manual gearbox, factory limited slip diff, no sun roof so in my eyes perfect 996! -carrera 2 -traction control -manual gearbox -84k miles -full genuine gt3 aero kit -factory options limited slip diff, cruise control, headlight washers, etc etc -double din radio -dark grey interior -sports seats -climate control -new coilovers 6months ago -new tyres 4 months ago -alignment set -full service history all stamped in the book -last serviced 6 months ago - folder full of about 12k of maintence receipts alone -gt3 wheels split powdercoated then rebolted -3 keys -sports exhaust bypass boxes sounds incredible! -front grills meshed to protect the new radiators and condensers that was fitted a few years ago! -hpi clear was paid for in full etc -loverly condition -been a brilliant car for us family days out to Porsche shows and every now n again take it to work with me £16,100ovno I feel this is very cheap compared to anything else about with same spec and mileage the closest one is slightly lower mileage and almost 20k! No test drives at all unless fully comp Insurance and driving license are brought and check out fine... 5+ owners, Full service history, Silver, £16,100

Constructive feedback is, it's a bit wordy, a bit exclamation marky and misses the key info.

1) I know people have good reason for hiding registration numbers online but these days the first thing I do is check the MOT history and if I can't do that, I'm not likely to even look, which leads me onto;
2) Your reg number is showing in one of your pics, ie your private plate, and I've looked at the MOT history. There's a lot of advisories and previous failures that would concern a genuine buyer that aren't in your advert:
Corroded brake pipes / incorrectly routed pipes fouling
Thin pads / corroded rear discs which are a sure sign it needs a set (and mileage would suggest it does too)
Tyres feathering / leading edges gone / tread separation
Wear in suspension components
Critically, there's nothing in the advert to address these points other than 'lots of maintenance' which won't cut it when a lot of those failures / advisories are only ~2 years old and less than 5k on the clock ago - it doesn't scream well looked after car. It needs to, to attract top money.
3) The pictures need to be spot on and whilst they're not bad, they could be better. Minor point, but still.

I think it's a good car, it's the right specification, it's non-sunroof, it's manual and early which people seem to love these days. I don't think the pricing is overly strong - someone looking for that combination is going to pay for it, but only if it's advertised really well with all the pertinent info mate.

HTH :)

patience is key I think.

I've been looking at 996's every day for the past six months. There are a few I've been watching that have taken over three months to shift.

Your car looks like an absolute gem, so first to see will probably buy.

I may come see it myself in a few weeks once I've got my finances in place. :thumb:

Thanks for the advice, yea most of that has been done and some is in the listing like the tyres, and only reason they were worn is because I bought the wheels week before mot and came with those tyres already worn tracking is fine, now has brand new tyres etc, but for me if I was the buyer they wouldn't put me off I'd just ask the question then try and either get the price down or walk away, couldn't put it all in the advert if that makes sense I'd bore them to death lol

You're not selling to you mate; you've got to think what are people going to want to know.

Bit of re-writing:
For sale is my 996 Carrera 2 in stunning condition with a great specification.
I've owned it for about 3 years and am only selling to replace with a 911 turbo.

84,850 miles with perfect full service history. Last serviced 6 months ago. Huge stack of paperwork with the car to show how well it has been cared for.

Best of the bunch being a genuine GT3 aero kitted car. It's manual, rear wheel drive, with traction control and factory limited slip diff; rare non sunroof car and early throttle cable version - the perfect purists 996!

Loaded with cruise control, headlight washers, climate control, double din stereo, and full leather interior in dark grey including sports seats.

Lots of money spent to make sure every mechanical detail is right - faults have been fixed regardless of cost and work undertaken includes 4 new tyres, new coilover suspension, new coffin arms, new brakes and brake lines, new air conditioning condensors; all within the last few years. It drives faultlessly.

Subtle and purposeful modifications include powdercoated split rim wheels, sports rear exhaust boxes, meshed front grilles to protect radiators, and sports suspension with full 4 wheel laser alignment undertaken at reputable specialist.

This is a truly great example and a rare car in this specification which is reflected in the asking price.

I can't believe the lack of interest you've had.

All I can think of is that the used Porsche market is even more full of scared middle aged men than it was even just a few years ago. A lot of them like the security of a dealer. Someone to tell them everything is going to be alright and issue them a warranty etc.
There are still plenty of private buyers at the moment though, especially for upto £20k.
Like I say I'm baffled.

Good luck with the sale, I don't think you are too far off on price assuming the condition is good.

Maybe re jig the ad, put some super slick photos on and be patient. It will sell im sure.

I know of a mate who sold his Aero Kit Car recently with similar miles (10k less) for that money (I think he got a bit more actually).

Finance might also be an aspect - if a buyer is set on car finance (as opposed to having the cash already or taking out a personal loan) then that often rules out buying privately I think?

Then there's also the fact it's getting colder this last week, summer is pretty much over - why buy a typical 'toy' car like a 996 now when you might not get to use it much until early March. If heart set on it, then for a buyer it's still better to wait until the depths of winter when prices are seasonally at their lowest.

Really should sell at that price, in that spec.

Personally I would take the GT3 badge off and put Carrera back on. Not just snobbery; it will appeal more to the purists and also make them less wary generally, I reckon.

I paid £16k for my C2 earlier this year. No aerokit but lower miles, so I think your asking price is about right assuming it is in tip top nick.
