Some will now I put the car up for sale couple of weeks ago, with all the known faults listed.
Well the amount of interest I had was quite surprising all things considered.
It seems the early C2 manual cars are quite in demand as the question I was asked the most was does it have a cable throttle?
Dont see what the fuss is there myself but each to there own i guess.

Anyway this got me thinking maybe I was rushing into selling it to quickly and should at least give it a proper go rather end up regretting it like I have done in the past.
So today left at 5 to drop it off in Essex to have the gearbox rebuilt.

Next on the list will be tha paint work.
Going to be an expensive couple of week's.

...just think what you'll have at the end of it. Lovely colour car m8 - hope it all goes well. :thumb:

CC,
Out of curiosity... where are you having the box rebuilt in Essex?

Interesting article on YouTube "Porsche 996/997 gearbox whine" by Richard Beaumont. Shows what looks very similar to a large IMS bearing with excessive wear to balls & casing due again to failure of the plastic seal letting in oil & "washing out" the supposed "seal for life grease". Another poor design from the alleged "holy grail of German engineering" or is it due to the fact Porsche sources parts from Brazil of all places. You pay a premium for a car built in Germany but turns out it is from parts made in the "third world". Proves how, post 993 (with the assistance of Toyota) Porsche built cars to a budget (and a low one at that).

I tried sports and classic, They were starting off at £3000+ and that was with me sending them the box on a pallet.

More expense today the guy doing my box has told me theres quite a lot of play in my ims witch i was going to have done at some point.

But not sure if he,s trying to blag more cash out of me.
Either way after talking to him on the phone i wont be having him change it anyway. He wants £2500 extra to do it, Seems to think the casings have to be split  So i,l be having it done else where.

I,l be collecting the car on a trailer. Now if the bearing is as bad as he says i don't even want to risk starting it.
So im not going to be able to try the gearbox out before i pay up.
Catch 22 what do you do :?:

What is going cost of a reconditioned box from a specialist? They'll often take your old unit as part payment to repair and sell. Contact a few of the advertisements on here for advice :thumb:
