Ok so I have bit of a noise from my box.
Apart from the obvious difference to having a front prop is there anything else between the 2 boxes?
Could I even fit the C4 box directly on to a c2?

From looking at pictures and descriptions I would say that there is a very good chance it will fit, so long as there is nothing which will get in the way of where the drive comes out of the gearbox to go to the front of the car. It appears that the C4 gearbox just has this extra drive take-off and no other differences.

According to Adrian Streather....

The difference between the two transmission types is minor and conversion from one type to the other is possible, unlike with previous series transmissions.

I've spoken to 2 specialists this morning one said the rear shaft is different so won't fit and the other said you could convert it so non the wiser atm.

I seriously doubt a 997 one would fit. I personally wouldn't consider it a bodge. In reality the 'boxes are based on the same design and are just slightly different models of the same gearbox. Less of a 'bodge' than when people used to put 993 engines in a 964 in the past.

A 997 and 996 box is different in some ways and even the 3.4 and 3.6 996 box is different and not interchangeable when I was looking at a new box a while back.

The C4 box will be no doubt heavier as you have the extra output for the front wheels and you will have an external moving part where the C4 cardan shaft originally bolted too.

I found these today www.ecu-solutions.net

Drive in drive out with a recon box 25k/2 year guarantee for £2500
Witch considering some of the prices ive been getting don't sound to bad.

Asked them how much to change the ims while the box was off.......
£2500 extra

That is a ridiculous price for a used not known box, DV have always been silly money for used parts. Try some of the other breakers, like Prestige or Cotswolds.

I have a used C2 3.6 reconditioned box with a cracked bellhousing but I'm guessing you need a 3.4 box?

Yes 3.4 think the 3.6 is different?
Agree £2500 for a used box is bit of a piss take if you ask me.
At that sort of money i,d have my old one rebuilt first.
