Sat nav problem.

Hi there. My PCM 3 sat nav is unable to locate my location. Location info screen constantly shows 0 sat found. It shows me being at the same place 60 miles away in the sea! OPC changed my windscreen two weeks ago and it was working fine prior to that. Coincidence? Is there anything I can reset myself before delving deeper? I reset to factory settings on the screen but still no joy.

I think your intuition is correct and its something the OPC have done or not done on the glass change. either not connected the GPS Ariel or similar. Let them sort it mate .Don't forget to give them hell for wasting your time which has a value and let them know they were allowed to do it to avoid incompetence and you don't expect to have to bring it back make them come and get it. :thumb:

:agree:

It happened to me when my screen was replaced. Fitter forgot to reconnect the GPS antenna lead.

I believe the GPS aerial is the copper trace in the front screen. Looks like they've forgotten to reconnect it.
If you've done the factory reset, and you've had the update to V2.24, I believe it wipes it back to what the car came out of the factory with. I'd check and see what version you have and get them to correct it if you have as recompense.

The GPS antenna is bolted to the underside of the skuttle panel ( bit the wiper arms go through ) .

This panel is removed when they replace the windscreen and is not uncommon if the fitter has not done these before to forget about it and end up pulling the lead.

They remove and then refit it later and think its all ok .

Reality is it breaks the lead connection to the gps ( blue plug ) and even sometimes the gps itself.

It will need a new lead which runs to the dvd unit and possibly an antenna as well .

A job i have done many times over the years shall we say

Same thing happened to me two months ago, when autoglass replaced my screen. Dove House repaired the cable for me last month when the car was in for an MOT. It can't be much of a job as they did it FOC.

UPDATE. Went back to the OPC who checked it and sure enough said that the GPS lead was connected but not clipped on properly apparently and they even had the cheek to tell me they wouldn't charge me for correcting this
Told them they might want to speak to their "specialist team" for not doing a correct job in the first place!
Anyway all sorted now and thanks for your replies chaps :thumb:
