I've just received the invoice off my trusted mechanic I use for servicing my 996 back in May and just wanted to share the costs with any potential 996 buyers so they know what they're getting themselves into with regards to running costs.

Yearly service to include oil, filters & plugs (only change every 3 yrs)

Parts------------------------------------------Cost

10l Mobil 1 New Life 0w50----------------£66.14
Hengst oil filter------------------------------£4.46
Hengst air filter------------------------------£9.45
Bosch spark plugs---------------------------£28.14

Labour----------------------------------------Cost

3hrs @ £30/hr (+VAT)-----------------------£108

TOTAL - £216.19

:)

Bloody scandalous! Does your mechanic wear a mask??

£30 p/hr labour

Down here our paper-boy earns more than that.

Any jobs going?

Just had a quick browse on Google and read this:

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/p...y-by-gbp160-per-hour-according-to-new-report/

Motoreasy surveyed 6000 garages across the UK and found huge variations in how much motorists pay, with one mechanic in Reading charging as much as £234 per-hour. In comparison, the cheapest, offered by an independent workshop in Manchester, was just £36 an hour.

Obviously didn't venture out to my neck of the woods

Either way, it's worth noting to folk that you're looking at around 3 hours labour and £108 on service parts if you're savvy with your dosh.

or if you are even remotley mechanicaly minded jobs like a radiator replacement casn be done DIY with original oem parts from ecp .

Ahh I see what you did there :D :D

Mind you, that's the oil that causes bore score, IMS, RMS and halitosis :D

You need the Millers Nanotech to overcome those issues.....

And I'd have done it in 2 ;)

Dan :D

It takes some members 2 hours to take their coil packs off

You're not including the all important assessment of:

- Magazines in waiting area
- Nice cars to look at
- Quality and number of coffees offered
- Biscuit assortment
- Drive to and from garage, possibility of ride on steam train either to/from

Which all factor into a service.

Sounds about right for the mechanics around here. Hence why I do most of my own work

£30 an hour?? Is he running a charity?

I hope you tipped him....

I would quite happily change the oil and filter myself but come sale time everyone wants a stamped service book don't they??

There is no rule that says a specialist must be used and any back street garage can do an oil change. All personal choice.
Any fault codes stored on the diagnostic checks I wonder?
