Future Residual Value

Hi All,

I'm brand new to 911's

Ok I accept this is a tricky question and who knows what the future holds etc etc. Anywho, I'd welcome all thoughts, opinions, comments.

Hypothetical scenario; excellent 2007 4S with 30k miles and complete service history - bought for £38k from trader. If car is maintained in same condition with 10k miles added what's the potential future value in two years time? (appreciate responses will be in broad terms)

Thanks in advance for you responses

Chris

value

I tell you mate the market has really collapsed cause of Brexit! Nobody wants to run an old Porsche these days. Just a money pit. Since Corbyn became prime minister it's all about public transport these days! I tell you I am doing you a favour offering you £14 k for it!

My opinion is that 997 Carrera prices are pretty much at the top of the short term rebound curve at the moment. All models are more expensive to buy now than they were a couple of years ago.

991s are still depreciating steadily so equivalent 997s will become capped.

That price is about where I'd expect a low mileage dealer sale car to be BUT as soon as you drive it away it will be worth 15-20%% less as a part-ex. Any mileage put on that reduces the average per year it's done will devalue the car even more.

In summary you shouldn't lose too much especially compared with any mainstream car over that time. IMO if you check what asking prices currently for private sale, average mileage 2005 equivalent model cars you wont be far out.

IMO £38k is bang in the middle of the cross over point between gen1 and gen2. Admittedly you might struggle to get a gen2 4s for £38k.

You either go low and buy something like my old gen1 4s for mid to late £20s, not too much downside .... Or you look for a decent gen2... Remember even the non S was quicker than the gen 1 S
:?:

I think that's big money for a GEN 1, I traded my 2006 4S with 59k miles a year ago for £26k I paid £34k 4 years earlier. £2k a year depreciation good in anyone book.
Porsches are funny and I recon they are going to slide imho but not as much as any BMW/merc! I've a mate with a fully specd M4 paid £60k brand new 18 months ago just been offered £42k by Porsche against a £115k gts😳

Sorry for babbling! In two years s I recon trade in will be £10k to £12k less at worst. Good luck

Market is impossible to predict but even if you bought at top money the cost of ownership will be less than pretty much any other car for similar money and that cost improves over time. Will be a while before they drop to bargain basement money and then it will take time to bounce back again.

I think £38k for a 2007 4S gen 1 is at the top of the curve.

2005 4s are going for around £30k (with low/decent miles and full history).

I actually think that OPC dictate a lot of prices - they see how quickly they are selling 991's and at what price - this then has an effect on 997's.

996's and 993's are probably an exception to this as they are appreciating if they are in good nick. (993's have really rocked in the last 5/6 years).

Right now there are some 991's going for £50k, and £40k would get you into a Gen 2 997, hence £38k is top of the curve for a Gen 1 (albeit a 4S).

Too much dough for a 997.1 you're into 997.2 territory albeit higher mileage cars and where most will look to buy if they hold the folding as the engine carries less risk and the superb PDK option is available.

Low miles cars will. Always attract a premium but it can be more applicable to certain models.

When you drive this one you'll be shaking like a shitting dog as you whip the value off it which will spoil the enjoyment :what:

Put that car into the webuyanycar pricer and see what it throws up as a part-ex now. In my experience even OPC do not offer more than them for some models.

Feels really expensive for a Gen 1, yes, low mileage, but you aren't going to make money. Get a Gen 2 C2S for similar money. It certainly isn't an investment. if you want an investment, get a cheaper turbo 996 for around £40k

I sold my 08 4S privately for £28K in March, admittedly it did have 80K miles on it but there was no shortage of interest.

I was offered £25K trade in against a new Macan so I was quids in :)

Just sold my C4s gen 1 (April 06), 70k miles, great file of bills and history , more toys than Hamleys...

OPC offered £21k, well known Specialists were £23-24k

Instead I let it go too cheap to my brother for a super fast sale :frustrated: :wack:

Jontt throws a few valuations out on here but :hand: usually over-eggs them.

He does however recommend the 981 Boxster GTS as a future classic and rock solid investment (now as he has bought one)

I think for bread and butter 997, the best version will be a manual gen 2 C2S. Not many around esp ones with low mileage and dry weather use only!
Much cheaper than a GTS which cost £70000 plus!

Have a look at 05/06 cars with just under 50k to give you an indication. They're a bit variable but a good 4S still won't leave you much change from £35k. I'd be impressed if you could get any 997 4S with less than 50,000 miles on it for low £30k's. Above 50,000 miles the prices slip a bit.

"Standard" cars are never going to be a great investment, but they've got really decent residuals and if you're planning to use the car and don't mind a bit of depreciation then you'll be very happy. Expecting a return or an increase in value will leave you disappointed.

I would echo the comments above that £38k is right at the top of Gen 1 money and almost everyone would be in a Gen 2 for that sort of cash even with higher mileage. Either go for a low mileage Gen 1 at low £30k's or get into a Gen 2 for high £30k's.
