Hi guys,
I have the odd clonk from the undersides which tells me that I might need some fresh bushes etc on the suspension ('03 C4s 53k miles). The question is; should I stick with standard replacement Porsche parts, or might I get better quality, at a lower price even, from someone like Design 911?
Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers
Rick

I would say shop around.

Over the winter i replaced every single arm and bush on the suspension of my 996, some with genuine OE, some with TRW and some with Meyle. It depending on what it was and where i was fitting it.

I got brand new GT3 lower arms with inners bought from one place and outers bought from another, for £360 for the pair, they retail at £900+.

Thanks Smithy and I will check that out.
Cheers Rick

That is a serious suspension refresh as shown in the video. Design 911 also know what they are talking about. Four grand for parts alone, plus labour, is a hefty investment but I guess worth it if you have the spare cash.

You don't need £4k

£1200 will buy you ALL arms- Coffin, forked, rear track, rear doggone, and front top mounts.

Don't forget inner and outer front track rod ends.

(TRW / SACHS are the OE makers so look for those)

Bilstein B4 are OE shocks

€680 euro for all 4 shocks.

Probably another £100 for the bolts you will have to cut off and sundries from Porsche, a day in the workshop and a £50 geo setup.

Your car will drive like new for £2k.

Just noticed you are c4s not c2. Well the shocks are 40 euro more expensive, and you need to get 997 top mounts as they are much cheaper than 996 c4s.

But yet get the idea. These don't have to be mega money cars. Any decent mechanic can work on them, no need to pay OPC or indy rates for a suspension swap.

I'm also a proponent of running these cars well and giving them what they need but not breaking the bank to do it.

Will these fit a 996 turbo?

Of course, the turbo has the same suspension arms as c4/c4s, i think only the gt3 has the adjustable coffin arms.

You'll need to get the correct shocks though which are more expensive.

Some people on here have found the bush in Meyle brand arms a little softer than genuine TRW made originals.

This isn't noticeable on a Carrera, but the extra power of a turbo highlights it under hard acceleration on the rear arms.

The fix is to fill the voids in the bush with a low cost elastomer material.

Have a search, your mileage may vary.

Many thanks for that info Wasz, that is brilliant stuff! I am on 54k miles and will be upgrading over the coming months with a small local outfit doing the work. Thanks again, cheers Rick
