Hi everyone

This time last week we were in a Porsche "somewhere" in France. Here's a brief summary of the trip.

A lot of the following photos were taken on the motorway or at fuel stops, simply because looking through a view finder on a twisty country road while, ahem, making progress is a recipe for being sick Wink We’ve got hours of video from the twisty sections to sort through and will share that ASAP.

Before Thursday 8/6

Cars were polished. A lot Cool

Thursday 8/6

We prefer to start our tours by arriving in Calais in the afternoon/early evening. It means everyone has a break after the drive in the UK, can absorb the time difference overnight and awake refreshed ready for the first “proper” day of driving through France. And it also gives a chance to catch up with friends, start making news ones and top up on fluids!

Friday 9/6

Thanks to an overnight shower we awoke to wet cars and damp roads, but before long the sun came out and it got hotter and hotter, which was pleasant for those that had aircon, a cabriolet or a targa but less pleasant for those that didn’t.

After a lunch break to refuel ourselves and the cars it was time for the real fun to begin when we took to the cross country roads towards the Morvan.

The further we went the better the roads became…

…and the more the smiles grew…

When the beasts were locked in their cage…

…our sights were set on the hotel bar. It didn’t stay this empty for long!

Saturday 10/6

After topping up the tanks again and cleaning more dead bugs from the windscreens (a frequent task!) it was time for a spirited cross country drive to the historic Dijon Prenois circuit to watch some classic racing at the Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or meeting.

When we arrived in our dedicated parking area at the heart of the circuit everyone was buzzing from the drive to get there. At this point they didn’t realise how much better the longer return route was going to be…

The day included time to take our own cars onto the fabulous undulating circuit in the Parade Laps. James wasn’t sure whether or not to take part but in the end I think he was glad he did Wink

The rest of the day was spent watching the racing.

The beauty of the events like this that we attend is the ability to get up close to the cars and their crews in the paddocks and pit lane.

The longer “scenic” route (i.e. one with lots of twisty sections, smooth road surfaces and hardly any other traffic) didn’t disappoint. The Morvan is a wonderful area for driving.

Sunday 11/6

This morning was a simple cruise to Mulhouse and the Cité de l’Automobile museum, which is home to the staggering Schlumpf Collection of vintage vehicles. The majority of the huge number of cars of display are Bugattis. A quick look on the internet revealed that ONE was worth approx. £30-40M!

The drive to our next hotel should’ve been one of the highlights of the tour but unfortunately our route through the Vosges was compromised by Sunday afternoon drivers. And miles of recently re-gritted road. I was desperately disappointed but, fortunately, everyone else seemed happy enough when they saw their next hotel tucked away in the woods with views of the mountains.

I knew the Vosges roads would be quieter the following morning but my fingers were firmly crossed that we didn’t encounter any more road works.

Monday 12/6

More fuel, more bug removing.

My prayers were answered; the Vosges roads were empty and the road surfaces were great. It was a superb morning playing in the mountains and finding out just how good the cars were. After a while we thought it might be a good idea to take a break and look at the scenery without it rushing by in a blur.

The final verdict on the Vosges? A definite thumbs up!

Tuesday 13/6

After spending our final night in Troyes it was time to head back to Calais. Well, it was for most of us; Joel & David went to Le Mans for a motor race you may have heard of, while Andy headed to family in Brittany.

Our route took us through the Champagne region so seeing as we were so close to Reims we just had to include the old pit buildings in our route but only after some mid-morning refreshments.

After Tuesday 13/6

Lots more cleaning and polishing was required…

If you were on the tour I hope you enjoyed it.
If you were not on the tour but are interested in joining us in future please drop me an email and I will add you to our mailing list.

Cheers,
L’rs

Great trip, thanks Longers. Great company. I can honestly say there were parts of that trip where I drove my car as hard (if not harder) than I have ever driven. It did not disappoint.
