High pitched whine on my 1990 964 C4

I have a whine which appears to be coming from the front of the car but I couldn't say for certain. It seems speed sensitive and is louder when I accelerate and disappears when I dip the clutch. It is more noticeable at slower speeds and either disappears when I get to around the 100kph mark or the increased noise masks the sound, I suspect the former. In neutral with the car stationary there is no whineing noise. Any ideas what the problem might be? All suggestions gratefully received.

I have a similar 'whine' which occurs in the same circumstances when my wife is in the passenger seat!

You're lucky, I can't even get my wife into the car, something about it being too old, at least I think she means the car!

Could be the front diff :?: Or even the prop shaft :?:

Whine on 964

Thanks for your suggestions. Perhaps I should have mentioned that I have just had the aircon regassed and I believe that an incorrect pressure can cause a whine. Has anybody any experience with the aircon causing this?
I'll check the front diff and prop shaft with my specialist if I don't find a simpler solution, fingers crossed.

Turn the AC off and see if it still does it. However if it was the AC surely the noise would come from the compressor which is in the engine bay?

Only thing up front in the wing is the condensor and hi-low speed electric fan.

I'm with Chief thinking it could be a drive shaft/diff given its a C4 and the noise is when torque is being applied :?:

Thanks for the responses. It looks like I will have to take the car down to Barcelona to the specialist there for them to check it out for me. At least the car will stay cool getting there. I'll go out for another run today to see if I can isolate it it any better.
