997.2 C2S Performance Tuning - Worth it?

A local independent sent me an email today offering an ECU remap for my Gen 2 C2S. The gains would be 5% on both BHP (385 to 405) and Torque (420Nm to 440Nm).

Would this make a noticeable difference or waste of time/money?

Put it this way, if you had me as a passenger (95kg), I'd blunt your performance by over 6%

... and that affect is throughout the rev range (whereas that remap is peak figures)

Can you tell with/without passenger and if so, would it be worth the ticket price?

Are you tracking the car? and can you handle the 405 bhp and 440Nm of torque? (no offense if you are Senna's cousin  )....if not then I agree with GT4 and apollokre1d. I certainly run out of talent before I run out of power or a straight enough road in my 997.1 C4S. Use the money for other goodies....like petrol. :thumb:

Thanks guys. I'm not in the same gene pool as Senna and restrict my passengers to 70kg or less so will skip this mod and put the funds into my Turbo/Targa fund instead. :thumb:

Didn't know you batted for the removable roof brigade?

I've made a few changes to my 3.8 NA but basically I've left the engine alone. You might squeeze a few hp out with a new exhaust and freer flowing air filters, and create smoother power and torque curves with a proper custom remap on 99 octane fuel but it would take a day with a real specialist sitting with a laptop looking at AFRs in your car strapped down to a dyno and doing multiple runs, but it might not be worth it, in terms of pound per horse.

I'd spend the notional funds on sticky tyres and harder pads. Or on preventative maintenance like fresh oil, new fuel filter, fresh plugs etc.

It's strange because I would never buy a cab, but the 991 Targa is a thing of beauty. It would be hard to have the funds and not buy a Turbo (coupe) though.

total and utter waste of money - you won't notice any difference and more likely they'll ruin your car

turbos best for this sort of thing

I 100% agree. The 964 and 991 look special. The others just have a massive sunroof.

... and terrible rear visibility with both screens overlapping in the roof open orientation.

Too heavy too.

To go back to the OP, the first question is what is your desired outcome? From there you can then start to qualify how your £ will get you the best result.
As a general rule, unless you are a pro racer, for the biggest gains, you are the cheapest thing to upgrade via education.Whether that be road or track.
