Can you get sports mode retro fit on a 997.1 ?
If you can, is it worth it. ?
Are there any alternatives? ( remap)
Sorry if these are silly questions but I'm a porsche noob!

Unfortunately I just bought a car that hasn't got it fitted.
Just done some digging on other forums and apparently the porsche dealerships can retro fit for about £700. I will ring my local and check though.

is your car a manual if so you might want to consider a sprint booster as it has a similar effect is £150 and also gives you a mid setting which in my view is more useable than sport mode if auto then dealer i'm afraid to get the full benefits
A good remap can also put your car permanently in sports mode i believe but you wont have a button to switch it off which isnt good for all driving

Yes it's a manual mate, I will have a look at that, thanks :thumb:

Hi Mate , apparently sport can be retro fitted and it comes with the button, as you say its about £800 you will find many of the OPCs will look funny at you when you ask because its not something they do often if even, so they will have to go digging . but show them this link so they cant deny its available .

PERSONALLY unless you have a Porsche warranty I would be doing the following.

IPD gt3 throttle body and plenum this kit comes with the bigger silicon hose from the air filter .
BMC sports filter
custom remap
sports exhaust with valvetronics, if not got PSE (the vid is a members car and is the same set up I have.

https://www.topgear.co.uk/porsche-911-997-1-carrera-valved-cat-back?search=porsche 997

if you have PSE then just get 200 cell big bore cats

https://www.topgear.co.uk/porsche-911-997-carrera-200-cell-sports-cats-2-5-63mm

then some lowering springs to keep the car planted while you enjoy the extra beans.

there's lots more bits you can do and if your interested let me know . but those are the main power wins. the other bits are when you start just looking for a few BHP or handling gains just because you want to.

Sorry if these are silly questions but I'm a porsche noob!

1) Sport, Yes, about £500 (Chrono, not officially or cheaply)
2) No
3) As it basically does nothing* (on NA, manual, non-GT), the alternative is to do nothing, but yes, Sprint Booster as mentioned also does nothing (useful) and a remap would do something slightly to you performance.

Have a look here for more info:

Or just do a search for "Sport mode" for more references

*if you had ankle problems or other restrictive limb movements, it might be useful. If you can press the pedal to the metal, you don't need this.

Thanks gt4 very helpful. :thumb:

:floor: :floor: :floor: Yes sorry mate  ok heres option 2 for more beans than the sport mode but at a reasonable cost

the sprint booster is a nice option it doesnt add BHP but it make the throttle respond quicker which feels like more beans , the tips benefit much more that the mans from this mod. I have one on my car.
the 200 call cats are one of the biggest power and sound gains you can do more than the sport boxes as the stock ones are very restrictive . and a BMC sports air filter and the smooth silicon hose and resonator cap little induction mod. those will change the car dramatically . but start with the induction mod its £150 use BMC filer in the kit as D911 give you options on filters you will be amazed at what such a small cheap mod does to the car. do that first.  :thumb:

Welcome to the world of Phil, your opening 'pandoras' box asking questions like this!

As others have said 'sport' mode on a manual is not really that bigger deal. On a tip, which I have, it makes the gearbox more sports orientated which is a big help if your pressing on and need to concentrate on the road ahead. Also on the Turbo it gives an extra 10 second of increased boost when your accelerating hard. On top of this it stiffens up the shocks which unless your on a race track is an option you will inevitably switch off!
Don't get pulled into the trap of thinking you must have it, then get it and find you never use it!
The Sport/Chrono package is a selling point on a lot of cars, especially the Turbo.

1. Don't think you can get it retrofitted to a Gen 1.
2. Yes, it is worth it, changes the car significantly
3. Get used to the car first, then decide if you can live without it. I only use mine sparingly when I am in full on loon mode and out for a fun drive when the roads are empty. It is less relaxing to drive with it on, and I turn it on, but then PASM back off as PASM is awful on UK roads!

Hi phil, mine is in next weekend for a major and im in two minds whether to order the D911 induction hose, cap and bmc filter.

Is it worth the £150 ish ? I've had the omd pse boxes replaced with dansk ones and love the mid range sound so not looking for bhp gains as its fast enough for me.

Thanks and sorry op for hijacking your thread :thumb:

Apologies if you can't tell the difference.......

Throttle response is massively different.
