Retrofitting PSE And OE Switch ???

Hi all,

So, after purchasing a lovely set of Top Gear Valvetronic exhausts that have the wireless remote control, I was wondering if anyone knows or has the knowledge on how i could go about connecting it to an OE switch ??? There is no wiring behind the dash for said switch.

I have seen the post on here where someone has wired up a 997 using a relay, resistors and a bit of circuit board etc. but on his car there is wiring for the switch set so was just a case of adding the feed wires for the PSE to the block, but with the 996 i'd have to wire the full switch i think... Not sure how many connections there are on the back of the switch.

Any "idiot proof guides" to do this this kicking around that i could attempt :thumbs:

Thanks
Craig

If you use the OE circuitry you will get a 12v output when the system is activated (quiet) and 0v when it isn't, it also has a connection to the speed input to turn it on and off at certain speeds. If not required that can just be left disconnected. You just need the fancy relay and the switch really. I did a write up on it not long ago here:

Hi Mistercorn,

Thanks, i have seen your post about this! A great write up !!

I was just wondering if there was an easier way, with the Top Gear exhausts you get everything you need to do this, albeit with a remote control for switching on and off of the solenoid.

I was thinking if i could wire in the OE switch, and just run the feed to the wireless receiver ??? (i can get the receiver wiring diagram) and use the OE switch that way? I'm just not sure about the wiring on the car side.

Thanks
Craig

I'm about to attempt this.
It is a momentary switch with 5 connections.
I'm planning on posting what I've done (when I've worked it out) but I'm not expecting it to be too complicated.

I did it on my turbo when I had the 9e exhaust. I used a couple of normal relays to do it. Seem to remember someone else on here found a ready made pcb on eBay which is a neater way to do it.

@ Aero,

If your going to be doing this, then your post will be greatly appreciated !!! Hope it goes smoothly for you !!! Thanks :thumb:

@911tom,

I've found the post on here where the guy wires in relays and a few resistors on a circuit board. Is it this one your talking about ??

Nice neat job this one ! but it's a 997 and only 2 feed wires needed from the switch pack...

Thanks Guys

^^^^ This is the best way to do it. The 996 PSE switch is a 1 way retractive switch, same as the 997. As in push it once and it will activate, push it again in the same direction and it deactivates.

Can you use the principles of this:

and wire the PSE switch into the exhaust remote fob?

Not the best solution. Also will not work with the standard PSE switch as above it only clicks in the one direction. You can use a different 2 way switch which is what I did. You swap the front part so it has the PSE logo still. This was how I did it;

I do think ducatiRob's solution is much neater though IMHO. Thats what I would do.

That's a nice neat job, but it requires fully wiring in the switch to the solenoids when the OP already has a wireless transmitter!

Is there not a simpler way just to get the OEM PSE switch on the dash to operate the wireless transmitter?

Also, does anyone have the part code for a matt finished OEM PSE switch (to match OEM 996.1 switches)?

From reading around it seems that the only OEM PSE switch available is in the 996.2 gloss finish as the PSE was not an option on the 996.1?

:eh!: You could dismantle the fob and solder wires on to it. Then use a 2 way switch as I did, think mine may have been a targa roof switch but there are several the click 2 ways.

As far as the colour I think you have answered your own question. Gen 1 996 did not have the valved PSE. Here is a link to the relevant part drawing;

Thanks, I seem to recall that people hadgot a reasonable match on the early cars by applying matt lacquer to the gloss switch.

I had a good look and that is my understanding too. Time to change the other switches.
