Brake caliper slide plate bolts

I have just stripped my brake calipers on my C4 ready for a clean and repainted and the usual pad slide plates have lifted due to corrosion, the bolts were seized, so I've had to use some force to remove them, which has damaged the heads.

Question: is it possible to buy just the replacement bolts or do I have to buy the kit including the plate, which are very expensive?

The usual suspects design911 and porscheshop are only listing the kits at £30+ per kit and there's 2 kits per caliper.

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

Buy replacement bolts, use stainless steel. - Get them from a fasteners company or ebay should cost no more than a few pounds.

From memory you need M6x12 stainless Dome head - 16 off.

The plates and springs are stainless and rarely need more than a clean up.

When refitting the caliper plates use high temp silicone behind them, this will help keep plate lift at bay going forward.

I would also replace the bleed nipples with stainless items.

Hi Chris

I would agree with crash above

SS bolts come in varying quality, have a chat with these guys as to finishes/quality and hardness http://www.gilbertlaurence.co.uk, think about a torx fit rather that allen cap but canvass opinion on that given the environment the bolts will be in, also use copper slip on all threads to avoid galvanic corrosion issues, I do this as standard practice, except of course where a locking thread is required

Are you doing your own refurb? It is worth getting this guy to do it, mine are like new after 6 years, I know its a few quid but he does a great job, you can still do the mechanical stuff your self and he may do a deal??

Hope it all goes well

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm doing as much as I can myself but the refurb is being done by brake caliper specialist in Long Eaton, they have previously done my cayenne and are very good and competitively priced.

I've also found a good rebuild guide by jackel which says most of what you too have said.

Thanks again

Chris
