Hi all,

I've just put a deposit down on a midnight blue C2S manual cabrio and look forward to my first foray into 911 ownership! It's time to get something faster and classier than my S2000, although I really hope I don't regret selling that!

It's certainly at the mid to high end of the 997.1 price range, but with one former owner (2 keepers) and 28,000 miles I think it represents decent value. 911's of all varieties seem to be increasing in value apart from high milers and ratty examples so hopefully I'll do OK!

Does anyone know the car?

Can anyone recommend a PPI near Harlow in Essex including a bore examination? (other thread here - http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=116557)

Thanks!

Tom

Nice looking car Tom, welcome.

nice car and spec and colour - you may want to check the IMS too as some 06 still had the old one

Very nice Tom and welcome.

I bought my first one last May and I'm settling into 911 ownership nicely.
It won't be long until the spring when you can get that roof down and listen to the sports exhaust

Nice choice! Not sure what car you come from but if it's a daily driver and your using it now, take it easy with the right foot! Get to know her first. Sorry for being an old fart and teaching to suck eggs :D
And it's warm enough now, heater on lol

Lovely car and the best colour :thumb: Wait till you get it under the lights on a petrol station forecourt at night when it's nicely polished :thumb:

Don't know the car, but I do know the dealer.

Not a bad bunch, Tony is a nice guy. Whilst they do not have the "specialist" knowledge such as 911v etc, they do have good stock and well above average knowledge on Porsche.

I bought my first 911 C2S from them, and had no issues with the Dealer or the car, post sale.

Sent you a PM.

I looked at a car with them and it whistled. They tried to tell me it was wind noise! Can't remember exactly what causes it but something has been tightened to much. So, although the car might be fine, I didn't like the rather dodgy "wind noise" b***sh**ing they tried to fob me off with so I wouldn't go near them.

Nice looking car, but seems a touch high price to me. Not a high spec, no chrono, no multi function steering wheel, but weirdly it does have bose and power seats. Bit of a strange spec IMO!

Do note that the RAC warranty is pretty rubbish really. You are better off removing it, getting money off, and getting an OPC or Warranty Wise one instead.

Looks like it has an aftermarket DAB radio receiver fitted as well?

You will regret selling the S2000. I still do! Don't regret having a 911 though, rather want both :)

Would go warranty wise, they dont cover "known issues" so that's IMS and bore score out of the window. Warranty Direct much better bet, I've had 2 significant claims with them, no problems.

Couldn't remember which one was good and which was bad! Know RAC is pretty useless though :)

Don't know the RAC warranty, but dealer warranties often don't have sufficient claim values and/or coverage. I obviously meant to say "wouldn't go warranty wise"! In 2014 for my 997.1, they said this via email "...we are well aware of the known faults on the Porsche type you mention and unfortunately they would not be covered under our warranty."

Best to always check for these "known issues", "publicised faults" type of clauses or even just come out with it and get a straight answer to a straight question about covering bore or ims faults. My 997.1 was good as gold, the claims I've had with WD were on my 997.2, steering rack and suspension, well over £3k

Any problems at all with Warranty Direct? I've got an OPC warranty but will likely change it in July when it runs out.

@resigner, no problems, they covered what the policy said and paid out painlessly.

My current 997.2 had an OPC warranty on it when I bought it and glad it did as exhaust, kick plates, coolant pipes, tandem pump were fixed under it, but when renewal came I went WD because I have some mods, being 20% cheaper was a bonus. It's a general market product so it will never be as convenient or prestigious as a OPC warranty, but you can negotiate, not only on price, but more importantly to make it like an OPC warranty in terms of franchised labour rate (if you want to use OPC), using Porsche parts only, no excess, no betterment.

Bear in mind that WD have policies that depend on the age of the car upon entry to the warranty, so for older cars the OPC warranty may cover more, but WD are clear about what is and what isn't covered, their policies are on their website.
