2000 Porsche 996 GT3 Mk1

PostPosted: Wed Sep 28, 2016 11:48 am    Post subject: The search for the holy grail is at an end... Reply with quote

Hi Guys,

Been a long time looking but at last I have found myself another GT3.

A MK1 GT3 ClubSport in Speed Yellow to be exact!

A bit of background on her -

Last owner has had her year 13 years, and spent £45,000 on her in serviced and maintained!! (yes £45,000)

1999/V
GT3 996.1
ClubSport
Speed Yellow
54,000 miles
Climate Control
MK2 GT3 brakes
K400 Manthey (done at JZM)
All original panels (and only the passengers door and front PU have ever been painted)
FULL service history (every bill included)
Rebuilt gearbox 10,000 miles ago (brass Scyros worn)
Front of cage still fitted
Original steering wheel given to me too

Needs detailing and few bits to make her mint (already having the centre tunnel painted)

The chap who owned it only used it a few hundred miles per year over the last few years.

Going to give her a blast in a few weeks with a Brighton Breakfast if anyone fancies it..

Dan - Thumb

Man I'm sooo jealous.

Well done on being able to get back into one. Having sold mine a couple of years ago I doubt I'll ever be able to get another.

Stunning car. Just look at how nicely it sits in that 2nd photo.
A Mk1 CS in Yellow or red is just perfection.

Enjoy it. Thumb

Thanks guys. I think I was very lucky to find her.

Just wish it was the start of summer ! But at least I have the winter to make her the cleanest GT3 on the planet ready for next year.

Hi Dan,

Enjoy the car. Have some wonderful memories during nearly 13 years of ownership. As you can tell, I didn't run her on a tight budget!

Easily the best car I've owned.

Stunning car Geoff that you've clearly cherished.
What is its replacement if you don't mind me asking? You'll miss that feeling of being wired directly into the car.

Hi Mark, not really sure what the replacement will be yet. As an overall package taking into account performance, noise, handling and engineering/reliability, I don't think you can beat a 996 GT3 in the £50-£70k bracket.

As you say, I did get the feeling of being wired directly into the car. Have not driven a 997 GT3 but I wonder whether you get the same feeling since T/C was added though you can switch it off.

Decisions decisions then Geoff.

My friend Paul who also owned my Mk1 CS moved to a lovely white '7 GT3 CS but just didn't gel with it. No big gain in performance but still raw, although not on the same level as the '6 and just a bit crashy and hard work. Our crumbly Northumberland roads aren't ideal for these cars though and setup can alter hugely from car to car. Loads of people love the '7.
He sold it on within a month and moved to a 991 GT3 which was awesome but is like comparing apples to oranges when looking back at the old 996s.

I'm sure you'll have fun sampling things and deciding though. Enjoy the search. Thumb

PS Just don't hang around on here watching how squeaky clean Dan gets the old girl. Grin
