I recently purchased a very original low mileage 996.2. Its a late 2001 with only 22k on the clock. I had negotiated on the price & budgeted to replace the tyres as the walls were cracked but thought I would check the date on them today. I believe they are very likely to be the original tyres from 2001 and still have a good 5-6mm tread left. To me this really confirms how carefully the previous owned had (or hadn't) driven the car. One has been replaced at some point as 3 tyres are 2001 and one is 2003. see pics below.

Yup, time for a new set.

very good that the car is that straight , but worrying at the same time about driving a car with tyres that old :thumb:

Wow a garage queen! I didn't see that advertised, or I missed it.

Agree with everyone else, time to stretch it's legs with some new boots on.

One thing I would do (myself personally) is book it into an OPC, have it freshly serviced and let them give it the once over. I say this because of 3 reasons
1, The car is new to you and it puts yourself at ease it's running on fresh fluids and lubrication. Then you're good to go for a while.
2, If the previous owners have left the tyres on that long with cracks, it's pretty much a sure thing other rubber components haven't been changed, e.g suspension items.
3, OPC will give you a clean bill of health or importantly a list of items which require attention. Which isn't a bad thing, the car is has a few years under her belt and you'll want to keep her running beautifully.

Fantastic car, I hope it brings you lots of fun and pride :thumb:

22k miles on one set of tyres! Maybe had a couple of sets of wheels and this set was not used so much? Car sounds great, what a find. And don't worry about the lack of miles on the clock. This can be easily fixed

They can't be the originals; 22000 and only using 3mm of tread?

Great find though. The problem you now have is that do you keep the mileage low or give the car the life she has been longing for.

I recommend the latter.

thanks guys. She was advertised on Exchange and Mart. will take her in to get checked out. she has 3 x OPC stamps and 1 specialist with full history and lots of receipts. will be good to have assurance & piece of mind though.
