...anyone have any advice on Insurance. My policy has just gone up by 30%, nothing's changed- Ive spoken to a few companies- including the ones on this site and they are even more expensive. I cant believe its due to the spike in prices- or is it?

Anyone with any advice - cheers?!

Are you looking for a limited miles classic policy, or daily drive?

Im through Classicline at £300 per year with all mods declared, 5000 miles allowance and agreed value.

Difficult to advise. Too many variables such as post code, garaged/on road, what you want in the cover such as excess and freedom to use own repairer etc

Try the comparison sites?

thanks for the responses- Ive tried Classic line and its better (£520) than my quote to renew ( £660) however still a fair amount more than I was paying ( £485)

the lowest Ive found is £458 and apart from that one having an extra £100 excess, all policies are the same- sub 6000 miles, maximum no claims etc etc

Its still a bit strange that its ramped up for me so much this year ..

cheers

That's nothing. I had a renewal premium of £350 with £200 excess and 4 years NCD. I rang AIB. They took all details, I said I wanted like-for-like cover and policy with 5k miles per annum and agreed valuation on the vehicle currently but refused to tell them the renewal premium.

At the end of the day, they ring and tell me the best policy for me they recommend, go through the policy details and then quote the price - over £1000! The policy did include Breakdown UK and European Cover where I had stated I did not want that but they said 'it's free in the policy' and a £500 Excess with a like-for-like courtesy car, but excess is waived if I chose not to take a courtesy car and elected to use my other car.

I told them not to waste my time. Based on this experience, I'd never recommend them. If you want cheaper, I'd suggest you try comparison sites.

If you want a good specialist policy, try another specialist broker, but remember that a specialist policy is likely to be more expensive than one from the high street volume insurers on comparison sites. Try Locktons. They are recommended by Porsche Club GB. Classicline seem to get positive comments on this forum. I don't think they give NCD. I want a policy where zi can build up a NCD on two cars.

There are brokers and there are brokers! I wont be considering AIB until the next passing of Haley's Comet.

Similar story here regarding price hikes, I was with axa for the last couple of years paying around £300 each year. This years renewal quote however was £435!
Needless to say I shopped around and got it back down to the usual £300 which was offered by a few. I've saved yet more by having a multi car policy as my wife's was due just a week later, that's brought the price down to £270 and that's with Elephant (part of the admiral group).

Hi,

I have mine through PCGB and Lockton's. For £400 I have full disclosure of all my mods (inc. 350bhp 3.8 RSR upgrade), agreed valuation (high), European breakdown cover etc., and a few track days allowed so long as you notify them in advance. Worth trying.

Cheers,
Paul

I switched to Locktons after Admiral tried a big hike at renewal time (seems a common ploy), however I've heard Locktons are selective with track days in that they favour PCGB ones so worth negotiating before signing on.

That sounds expensive for Classicline on a limited mileage policy with a up to £50k valuation. I'd expect it to be c£300. Must be weighted on your age, post code, not garaged etc :dont know:

Try a comparison site like confused.com and if this is an additional vehicle to one that has NCD just put in zero NCD as it tends to identify with the age of the car it will be a classic policy you're after. I got some low quotes from companies I'd never heard of but Classicline with their extras justified me paying the nominal extra amount.

Insurance

I went with classicline in the end - got them down a little ;-) Just such a ****sache isnt it- if I add up the time i spent on it at my hourly rate I should have taken the first offer!
