I'm a newbie to the forum and I'm looking for a 911-997- Gen1 Carrera S which will enable me to join in some of your conversations!
I'm looking for a manual coupe (not convertible) and (here's the kicker) I'd ideally like one that has had the Hartech engine modifications.
I'm located in Manchester so something within easy commuting distance for viewing would be preferred (not essential, but more chance of me turning out), and I'm a realist & will consider up to 80k of mileage with service history at combination of OPC & specialist.
However as I know nothing about these cars; I will be getting a 3rd party inspection carried out by a specialist before parting with my hard earned- so if you have any known problems, then let's not waste each other's time.
I don't have a diesel Mondeo or anything similar to part-ex, I was going to use money if that works?.
cheers, Paul :bye:

and

"I know nothing about these cars"

:hand:

The first sentence clearly disproves the second one.

Seriously, :welcome: to 911uk and Good Luck with your search. :thumb:

Good luck with the search, people selling their Hartec rebuilt cars do advertise on this site so keep your eyes open.

What's your maximum budget?

thanks for the support gents- my knowledge of the 997 (or of any other Stuttgart product) is negligible- I have read a lot, and aside from reading service reports, I wouldn't know what to start to look at. I'm an engineer by profession; part of my job is not knowing everything, but knowing what I don't know and knowing someone who can fill that gap. hence the 3rd party inspection requirement.
Budget? I probably have a ceiling of £25k (hence a gen1)

Welcome, I know we have chatted on a previous thread but you don't let not having your car yet stop you from joining in conversations. Hopefully you will find your hartech rebuild soon, or settle for a reduced risk option the 997.1 3.6 has very very few reported borescore issues, if you are one of the few unfortunate ones they are virtually all 3.8 that suffer this issue. Also the tip has more borescore than the manual something to do with the tip adding stress when pulling away in second gear which is the default gear when warmed up.
cars after March 06 have the newer IMS bearings , some late 05 and early 06 are on new bearings depends when they came out of the factory as they changed to the newer ones . the pre and post new bearings engine numbers are in my mods list if you look in my garage (click on my car under my user name)
So if you choose a post March 06 registered 3.6 carrera manual , you should be minimising risk. and/or spend 1k ish PA on a Hartech warranty or Porsche will warranty up to 14 year old /140k miles cars ,both options will need a 101 point check done first but you then have the worry free option. Hopefully those options will help you widen your search . :thumb:

There was a silver C2 for sale at a garage called Autoecosse in Dundee when I looked last year that had Haretch work done on it due to the scoring.

It was okay but needed a little tidying up which I think they did, (bodywork). It was around £22k then so if they still have it you could probably get a good deal. I think it may have been one of the owners selling it through the garage.
