PostPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2016 11:52 pm    Post subject: 997 gen 1.5 turbo pcm3 iPhone question Reply with quote

I've just picked up the above and I'm having problems getting my iPhone 6 to pair. I was looking forward to the BT capability of the PCM3 but I read some problems with iPhones connecting.

Anyone using iPhone 6 with pcm3?

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris - I use PCM3 with my iPhone, works very well, automatically hooks up and syncs phonebook every time i get in the car and calls are clear both ends!

First thing you need to establish is whether your car actually has the bluetooth hands free option enabled, as although you have PCM3, that doesn't automatically mean that bluetooth is enabled.

Check the options list - your looking for Bluetooth hands free interface option. Worth seeing if it was specified from new, although if its not there, it still could have been added later.

Worse case scenario is you may have to add the Bluetooth hands free option, which is available from Porsche as a retrofit kit and includes a microphone set that fits inside your steering column and a unique activation code to enable that option within your PCM3.

Or maybe you have it and are just struggling to pair for some reason?

Give us any more info you can find and we will try and assist further!

I've got a gen 2 turbo with PCM3.
Connects to my iphone6 without any issues, however sometimes I have had to switch off Bluetooth an the iPhone 6 and then switch it back on for it to connect. Maybe try that

As Monster says, check Bluetooth is enabled as a feature, and if you still have problems pairing then it may be the firmware level.

I had problems pairing initially but upgraded to v2.24 and my iphone6 paired immediately afterwards.

The first thing to do is check what firmware you have on your PCM. My car had a very old firmware on when I bought it and would not pair with Android or iPhone's until it was updated. The latest version is 2.24

If it does need updating then its a dealer only job, unlike the PCM 2.1. Some dealers have offered reduced fees of around £200 to do it, but list is circa £430

That's exactly what mine did before the update. I'd check the version and work from there as its almost certainly the issue.

Well usually they do it as part of a map upgrade. You can do it yourself but it can brick the PCM if it's done wrong or the disc is bad.

The PCM. v1.4 is pretty outdated now and will need to move up to v2.24 - new maps, features and phone compatibility.

Dealer only advisable. Will be somewhere between £200 to £400 depending on special offers. Porsche Leeds did mine for around £200 last Spring.

If you have warranty, and you are happy to pay an OPC for the upgrade to 2.24 fw to get the bluetooth bug fixes then this is the least risky option

To go to 2.24 you will need the 2015 maps also updating too as they go hand in hand.

The pcm3 unit/media can be a little unstable during updating so if you have warranty and the opc brick it then you will likely get a new unit or they will persist in flashing/recovering it all FOC

The cheaper option is to do the flashing yourself and you can pay for the 2015 map code from a company that gets the codes created and provides downloads to the maps.

This was my route, as per a few others that did the pcm3 retrofit.

If you brick it and the firmware upgrade crashes mid way through, it is recoverable (i've recovered 2 of them already Smile )
