IOM TT Lap Record has gone today!

:thumb:

Unbelievable pace.......the Dunlop legacy continues. I really do enjoy the Moto GP but these guys are on another level for committed riding. I doubt any of them, maybe with the exception of Michael Dunlop would get close to the Moto GP lap times but on the other foot couldn't see Lorenzo nailing it full chat over Hailwoods Rise.

Dunlop would be lapped in Moto Gp!!

Dunlop is back of the field in BSB so in MotoGP he'd be eaten alive!

Watched the race this morning and they were certainly motoring on. As for Michael at the back of the field in BSB or MotoGP, likewise if you took most of those riders and asked them to ride the TT, they would be no where. Two totally different types of racing. So please don't try and take away the achievements of the riders who do the TT. :thumb:

Fair play. Shame it was Dunlop though.... I don't like the grumpy ar$e crack.
It'll probably go again this week. Hope so...

What relevance is this and the other BSB comment to what has happened today? The IOM TT is one of a small number of road races - nothing to do with or comparable to circuit racing.

Chris, 100% correct. Road Racing is a unique form of motorcycling and cannot be compared to BSB, WSB or MotoGP. Road Racing stands out because of the higher average speeds, we understand the tracks because they are the roads we use every day, and the margins between glory, serious injury and death are sadly so small.

Intoxicating, mesmerising, frightening and awesome in equal measure.

Well done to MD on his superb victory, and condolences to the family of Dwight Beare who sadly died in the sidecar race.

Totally agree, road racing and circuit racing are different crafts and don't necessarily translate. Awesome ride by Dunlop

really enjoyed driving over the mountain last year when I was on the IoM thinking about doing it flat out on a bike gave me instant goose bumps

respect to the TT riders :thumb:

Unless you ride a bike you have no clue as to how brave and talented these guys are.

Sorry Chris, it is relevant: dunlop does the TT as he is quick and knows the circuit really well that is why he wins. He is a specialist.
In theory the record should fall every year with development and a man who knows the route even better
Moto gp riders don't grow on trees everyone in know knows that

But it's not relevant!.

This is on normal roads with all the issues that this involves - no fancy tarmac, road furniture and hardware, white lines etc.

You are being critical of Dunlop by comparing him with Moto GP - the opposite is just as easy and nobody is doing that. I have massive respect for Moto GP riders for what they are. Road racing at his level is proper hardcore bike racing that is very different to the sterile, manufactured race circuit.

Rossi is one of my heroes but the road racers are very different.

I bet Dunlop would tell you himself: he is good at the TT
I am better at roads I know than anyone I know; and my mates are better than me on roads they know
I remember when foggy and hislpp rode on the Rvf rocket ships to break the lap record and they were both successful track riders. Kevin Swantz would muller them all!! But that's my opinion

There really is no comparison, road racing is a very different skill to short circuit racing.

The achievements of Dunlop, McGuiness, Antsy etc are every bit as heroic as Rossi, Lorenzo, Marquez, and in some ways more so considering the consequences of getting I wrong.
