Hi All,

Looking to move on my gen2 Cayman 2.9 that I got from 911v just over a year ago. I'm in no hurry as I've not found the right spec 997. Historically I've always just traded in to the specialist I've brought from. This time I thought I might explore other options. I have had it serviced just before Christmas and it's getting detailed on thursday, the mileage is 44k. The only mod I have done is a carnewal GT exhaust and Cayman R exhaust tips. My question is from people's experience is it worth the hassle to sell it privately and if so what are the best places to advertise. I'm assuming auto trader and piston heads ? I've not tried SOR yet, what's a normal ammount to pay and any recommendations.

Thanks

Pistonheads is 11.99 for a month so well worth a go. Imo pricing is vital, a rough guide would be 2-3k more than your best trade bid depending how much you want to discount to a potential buyer. If the car is a good one in excellent condition which i expect yours will be as you bought from 911v it should sell private, good luck

Back when I was selling my M3 GT, Autotrader was useless. Pistonheads a much better bet. Forums were great for raising awareness too.

As a buyer however, I browse both Autotrader and Pistonheads. Also ebay and forums.

If there's no rush, I would start with PH and then dip toes into other options depending on response.

I used to sell all my cars privately at prices somewhere between what a dealer would give and what they'd sell it for.

In recent years I've found that most private buyers are looking to buy at the same prices as the trade do so it's just not worth the hassle.

The SoR route should get you the best 'no hassle v cash achieved' scenario. They do all the car prep', advertising, punter vetting, finance and warranty and you should get about 90% of what they sell the car for.

I got a lot less calls as a seller when I used their Phonesafe feature in my add on pistonheads. It charges callers a fee to call you.

Personally I have had more success selling with Autotrader.

Thanks for the reply's.
I think ill give it a go privately on here and piston heads then after 3-4 weeks maybe add in autotrader. I think im not being sensible with price. ill go for £20,999. Unless anyone thinks that's a fantasy price.

Sounds a fair asking price, mention that you bought it from 911v as that may help it sell!!

Car has now sold, the hunt has begun for a 997 c2 or c2s PDK with a nice spec. Let me know if anyone is jumping out of nice one soon. thanks guys

Out of interest, how did you sell the car in the end?
