996 damper options

Hi all, thinking of upgrading the original dampers on my 996.2 GT3. It's a road and the odd track day car so needs to keep some compliance, albeit I don't mind a compromised road ride.

Would be great to hear recommendations. I have heard good things about Nitron and Moton. Are the Ohlins road and track worth thinking about or do you need to go for their TTXs?
 
I've had Moton Clubsport dampers on mine for ~70K miles and they're still working perfectly. TBH, they are probably overkill for most people; I chose them because I wanted remote canister for ease of adjustability, plus (at the time) they came from Holland & they were very helpful. Moton is now part of AST and I've had reports that getting spares to rebuild them is very difficult.

I had Ohlin TTXs on my Riviera car & they were very good also & a similar cost to the Motons at ~£7K. I'd have said that unless you want to spend that sort of money, the Ohlin R&T offer very good value for money.

Spring rates are everything & after a bit of experimentation, I'm running 100n/mm front & 140n/mm rear. For mainly road, you might want to drop the front rate a little, but the rear is perfect at 140.
 
I currently have Ohlins as recommended by a known Porsche specialist (although I will not mention fitting :x ). Mine are not TTX though and I have a set of KW Clubsports that need refurbishment before fitting. No idea on spring rates as I leave that to the experts. I asked for a set up similar to the RS settings and the ride is quite harsh but I quite like the seat of your pants feel ie more track going road car than road going track car.

Original Bilsteins are also awaiting refurbishment.

I had the same issue last year when looking to replace (all round) original dampers and springs. In the end I went for updated Bilsteins which have a manual bump adjustment accessed from the top of the damper. I set them to medium and found the ride much smoother than the originals but firm enough for road use. Should I ever go to the track, I can adjust accordingly. For the springs, I kept to the original rating and manufacturer.

The costs was relatively good value and they were in stock (at Bilstein) in the UK at the time.
 
Motons looking quite appealing at the moment and i think they may have come down in price somewhat. Will post up further updates and let you know thoughts when I've got them on the car.

In the meantime, any other ideas / advice welcome.
 
Thanks to Henry and Tanvir for sharing their experience and advice. I settled on a set of Nitron 3 way adjustables, now installed by Fearnsport.

Took it to Rockingham on bank holiday Monday but didn't get to really test it out. Initial impressions were good, very responsive and the combination of stiffer springs and better damping made the car feel like it had been on a crash diet.

Looking forward to a day at Silverstone or Donington to try it out properly, then DN in September.
 
Just back from DN, what a trip and what a track.

The new suspension really makes a difference. The improvement in damping / control feels like its removed ~150kg and the car gives me so much confidence now.

Well worth the money for the upgrade if you are tracking it.
