I just saw it on bbc news online, I cant post it, maybe someone else can, its always been big business but its getting bigger and your Cortina is being targeted.

I think the Austin Allegro and Princess VDP are safe. :dont know:

Taking on an Allegro with its square steering wheel without some practice is not for the faint hearted :what:

When I was an apprentice and going to college I used to blag a lift with an older lad who's first car was an allegro with square wheel. He moved onto an MG metro while I started with a mk2 1.3 escort (beige) with hounds tooth trim. Heady days.

The recent rise in popularity of 80s classics will obviously lead to loads more theft as prices rise.

Mk1 Cortinas however seem to be being specifically targeted according to the classic car press. I was out and about yesterday in 200bhp mk1 Cortina :)

my stepdad had a princess special six automatic. We were just kids, but it seemed great, I remember the power steering and a red flashing light that came on if you forget your seat belt. I think he had it up on ramps quite a lot even when it was new.

80s car thefts

I have a 31 year old Ford Fiesta and have been watching the price of classic fords rising over the last few years.

Its looked away in the garage as it would be easy to steal.
Take a look what the ford Capri is fetching now

A lotus Cortina went for 40k at Brooklands yesterday.

I think this one is safe, bad points excepted, it's just under the radar as a '79 example :dont know: I't even got a reserve on it

Nice colour :thumb:

its like a communist bloc style car, a rounded off trabant, ghastly, they were ridiculed at the time along with the marina.

Best keep the Cossie secure then.

Wise words :cop: from the man they once called 'the lozenge' in getaway car circles.

Too right they were easy to steal! I was able to open & drive my mates car with my key back in the day!

I've got a 1986 C-Reg Escort RS Turbo series 1 and has been locked away for 3 years purely because of how easy it could be stolen.

Just waiting for it to get to a decent value.
