I've just switched from a rotary to a DA polisher ,
The slightest amount of pressure seems to stop it spinning and just seems to vibrate ?? I've spoken to the supplier and they say nothing's wrong ,

Thoughts guys :thumb:

Edit - Ps - this is for my other cars , I'm not trying to compound the 911s yellow wrap :)

It's from poor boys , branded as their own ?

I've never used a rotary but have done my 911 with a DA pro and as you say if you press too hard the pad won't spin. I understood this to be a feature which meant you were adding too much pressure?

Have you checked out the Junkman Youtube vids as they were very useful for me when researching DA's and technique.

my results were good, not as good as a pro detailer by any means but a definite improvement on my black paintwork.

+1 for Junkman videos, very informative :thumb:

I would have thought a Poor boys piece of kit would have been top notch, just like their other products that I have tried out, Blackhole is simply fantastic on my Obsidian black and Midnight blue cars :?:

You know what happened when I googled "poorboys black hole" with my porn filter off .And now you want me to google " Junkman videos " are these companies having a laugh with the product names.

The machine is working as it should.
They dont rotate as you would expect from a rotary, making them safer in the wrong hands if you get my drift?

When you are operating them, they just vibrate much like an orbital sander.

You just place your hand on the top end to hold it in position and guide it.

No pressure is needed let the machine do the work and break the compound down.

I use a DA on my cars branded a dodo juice one. I'm sure they are all the same tool, just with different branding on. I'm a bit concerned about the amount of pressure you are putting on it, mine's always been fine, and as said, I only use light pressure and let the machine and the compound do the work. Mine has never stopped spinning, sometimes the pad gets a bit hot, so I back the pressure off and allow it and the paintwork to cool down.

If I place it on the bonnet and remove my hands holding only the wire , the weight of the machine almost stops it spinning ?? :x

Can I ask why you switched from rotary to DA?

Most go the other way, once they've picked up some practice. I use a DA and it takes a looong time to detail the 964. Im looking either a rotary or a Rupes Bigfoot.

FWIW I use a Dodo DA and you only have to guide the machine rather than applying any real downwards pressure.

That doesn't sounds right to me unless the machine weighs a ton....

I bought the DAS-6 Pro from a reputable online detailer but as per previous comments they are likely all the same rebranded.

Assuming the backing plate is correctly sized for the pad and all is put together as it should be, which I'm sure it is, then I cant see just the weight of the machine stopping it spinning.

as others have said its usually just light pressure and guiding the DA to break the compounds down with correct lubrication at the same time.

As mentioned above, why did you switch from the rotary?
Rotaries are generally more powerful than D/As but can be dangerous in novice hands. If you are handy with a rotary I'd have stuck with that.

I have a Deltalyo Das6 pro which is a lot better than hand polishing but still errs on the weak side. Anything deeper than swirls takes an age to remove depending on the paint type.

I'll be moving to a rotary when I eventually have time to do some detailing again.

I had the same problem as you in that my machine didn't seem to be working well enough. I even sent it back to Eamonn at Monza Detailing who tested it and assured me it was perfect. Good guy to deal with and did offer to swap it for a different make altogether if it would make me happy.

Yours does sound very weak mind. Mine stops spinning if it isn't held flat properly, particularly on the top edge of bumpers etc, but on a flat panel it flies around nicely.

Only thing you can do is let someone experienced and impartial have a go and see what they think.
Good luck getting sorted. :thumb:
