Morning all

First post on 911UK, currently hang out on Boxa.net, I have a 986 3.2S which will go to allow me to jump up into a 997.1 2S

I am very familiar with most of the independent Porsche garages, Portacraft have a car i could be interested in and i am aware of their checkered past and google provides plenty of useful reading , however all the stories i drag up are way way out of date even almost a decade old!

Can anyone give subjective experiences over the last couple of years

thanks

Andy

Bought my first 911 off them a few years back and they were perfect. Sold it back to them.

Best mate bought one last summer and all good.

There stock is reasonable, well priced....

Cars may not all be pristine, but judge each car individually.

Been around decades - that should tell you something.

Know at least 4 people personally who have bought from them over the years and I would go back if it was the right car.

Good Choice of step up Andy. get a decent warranty factored in and you will have nothing to worry about just great motoring  :thumb: keep us updated

Thanks for the replies,

Redjedi your points are very helpful, you only ever read bad news on the internet.

Cars appear to come with a 5000 mile no time limit warranty, thats about a year for me.. so could work.

I don't want a garage queen it will be used as a daily driver.

used them years ago, a reasonable stock at reason prices but at a reason quality but dont expect much or much from the warranty

good if youre buying on a budget

Do you mean Portiacraft in North london?

Hi all,

I've seen a 996 that I'm quite interested in on their website and have read a number of horror stories on the Internet about them, but they were mostly from between 2005 to 2008.

I'm living in Luxembourg, so it's not so easy to pop in and have a look. Any others want to chip in and give some comments about recent experiences with them please?

Richard

If this is portiacraft north London this is what I posted about them 3 years ago when I brought my turbo

Buying from Portiacraft was an interesting experience, not in a bad way at all. They seem to have a quite different approach from other dealers that have their own premises. Its very very no nonsense. Not rude or impolite but there is no thrills like coffee or comfy sofas etc, it's very much an in, see if you like what they have, and out experience, which I actually quite liked. Major service including plugs and a inhouse non-third party warranty were the bits I liked most as well as a big file of receipts, old MOTs etc. emails replied to over the weekend, call backs and easy to get hold of on the phone. They certainly seem to be doing things right as they had 3 car collections the morning I picked mine up and the show rooms are rammed with stock.

Thanks lofi.

Did you get a PPI done before buying from them? If so, who did you use?

Nope. I relied on their in house warranty. They resolved issues very well after purchase. Nothing major just a bit of new car paranoia on my part. They were very open about the stuff they would do prior to sale.

Positive noises from me. I nearly bought from them 6 years ago but dithered a week too long. Great to deal with and only ever heard good things. :thumb:

Their cars are not OPC/RSJ prep level but seem to be honest cars - at least you can see what you are getting. The two things that stand out for me are:
- Reasonable prices compared to other specialists
- Decent in-house warranty, if you are local

If they have the right car for you, it is definitely worth a visit to see it for yourself.

It turns out that they didn't want to sell me the car for two reasons:

1. I live in Luxembourg and they believe the sale would take too long

2. Because I wanted to get Jaz to do a PPI on the car - this was because I didn't have time to fly over and see it before buying. They said Jaz would make a long list of things wrong with the car because the car wasn't perfect.

They said they had a number of people willing to buy the car without a PPI.

Very strange :?

That's sad news for you Rich' but I see it from Portiacraft's point of view.

i.e If they've got buyers that have actually seen the car and are prepared to pay the asking price (or an acceptable % of it) why would they consider waiting for a buyer who might want to buy it after they've had it inspected knowing that this will lead to a load of haggling on price.

Happy Hunting :thumb:

But if they don't want anyone wanting to have a PPI done, then wouldn't you walk away anyway?

whether or not to have a PPI done should be the buyer's decision, not the sellers :?:
