Capri more expensive than a Ferrari! Who would have thought?

Classic car prices continue to baffle me. Okay, the Mondial may not be the most desirable of Ferrari's but it's still a Ferrari. A Capri? Yeah, nice bit of nostalgia. But c'mon! There's one here that nearly got more than a 360 Modena. And it's not the island. Let alone some nice air cooled 911's. I just don't get it. And some really interesting cars going for next to nothing - and yes I know condition is everything but...somebody tell me, what's going on?

The Bedford CF flat back - Estimate £10k :floor:

Did Jonttt buy the Austin Montego :dont know:

Classic Ford prices can be eye watering.I know of a Mk2 Escort RS1800 that has sold for 60k..and rumour has it that it was reshelled using an 1100 pop donor car.

nostalgia is an expensive game, capri's were always an ok car, but its not even a car i would consider a classic, I think many people have been sucked in to this game, to me, classics are jags, Porsche, Ferrari, lotus, lamborgini, rollers and Bentleys.

An interesting thread with some nice cars going for reasonably low prices and some horrors going for silly money.

The Capri for more than a Ferrari comparison isn't really valid though. The Capri is a 2,300 mile example of one of the last 2.8is made. The Ferrari is a lhd Mondial with a replacement engine.

£37k for a Capri though .......... :nooo:

great browse with a cup of coffee, prices all over the place but difficult to gauge without being able to actually look at the cars.

It's ultra low mileage. but it's still a Ford Capri. It may never have been used or driven much, but it's still a Ford Capri. Whether it's the first, the twentieth, the middle or the third from last made. It's Ford Capri. The greatest most pristine most perfect Capri will only ever be a Ford Capri. 1.6's or 2.8's. All Capris. They used to be everywhere when I was a kid growing up. Literally on every street. A Ferrari was a magical mystical unicorn. Then again, for a very wealthy individual with a heap of cash looking to build a private classic UK car collection of sorts, 37K is probably nothing for a giant Corgi model in the garage that evokes floods of childhood nostalgia.

You should have a look at the prices for lanci delta evos and some scoobies. Its a joke

The bit, now highlighted in red, was me agreeing with you.

Emperor's new clothes. It's all nonsense.

I thought the good cars made in small numbers were the things that were meant to go up in price.

Production numbers mean nothing at this level. Its surviving cars chased by people that owned them in period .

I agree Kingston, I looked at a Integrale Evo that was 20K and thought it was expensive when I had been offered a Quattro 20V for £6.6K a few months earlier and walked away now they are 35K+ .

They are good fun but really...........
