964 Engine Out

Thought people might be interested that I decided to drop the engine a week ago when the car went in for it's annual service with Tom Ferguson, in Gateshead. The 3rd gear synchro was getting worn and I asked Tom to replace this, and check out the others at the same time. My car's a 4 so it made sense to take a look at the engine too...happy with that as the engine tinware was shot and the engine was weeping (not leaking!) oil to the extent it was getting picked up on MOTs. So, what with one thing and another, power unit is now in full strip down mode in prep for replacement of all oil seals, crank throughbolt o-rings, piston barrel seals...the lot. Very exciting! Both Tom and I have been trying to keep a photo record of the work. I'll add some pics of the work as it goes on...

I for one will be very interested in this. Oil stains on the garage floor just goes against my dna. Looking forward to seeing pics as the work progresses. Good luck!

Now that is the extreme result of "Whilst you in there" man logic.....
Cannot fault it sir  :thumb:

We do like a nice build :thumb:

Good luck,

Watching this with interest. Probably need similar myself soon.

Might as well jump in with both feet! Try not to buy any other cars while your there!

Excellent stuff.

I think now would be a good time to say what you think it will cost, so that at the end of the 53 page thread we can remind you.

:)

Good luck.

I think it was an old Harley ad that went ..."a thing of beauty is a constant joy".

Actually it may not have been a Harley ad, but you get the drift;)

These cars deserve this kind of attention and appropriate man maths rules apply :thumb:

Looking good so far. The new tins you got are they genuine Porsche or Dansk?

Hello G60... I'm not sure about the tins. Tom has got hold of them from whatever source he uses and added some heat resistant extra coats of paint (might be powder coated now I think about it). Given the state of what's come off I'm not too fussed about originality of the replacements...so long as they fit and do the job. Thanks anyway for the query.

I only ask as I plan on getting the Dansk ones but was worried about the fit.
