I have used a well known Porsche specialist in Berkshire ever since my first Porsche in 2008 and they are great.

However, due to reduced servicing costs, I am contemplating using Cridfords of Surrey.

The car tells me my pads need doing and both garages seem to think it may be discs as well (30,000m currently on the car).

My usual guys charge £620 for fronts and £615 for rears, Cridfords are £500 for fronts and £490 for rears (discs, pads and fitment).

My questions are a) has anyone experienced Cridfords and b) do these costs seem reasonable?

With Christmas and the associated costs round the corner, any and all opinions would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

I recently went to look at a gen 2 Boxster S at Cridfords and I have to say it was one of the worst car buying experiences I have ever had. The car was in terrible condition and had not been through any sort of preparation. The salesman that was dealing with me really didn't seem interested and when I told him that the interior was in such poor condition he told me he hadn't looked inside the car - which I find hard to believe. They refunded my £500 deposit without asking me why I wasn't happy with the car. I ended up spending another £4k to buy a higher spec car with another dealer - Cridfords loss I guess. I can't really comment on the servicing side of the business but if my buying experience is anything to go by I would stick with the specialist you know - better to spend a little bit more to know that the job has been done right. I'm sure this is not everyones experience of Cridfords however this was only two weeks ago so thought I would share.

It's not rocket science changing discs and pads :dont know:

Have you priced up how much the parts are first and then the associated labour costs?

A future buyer will want to see/know what has been fitted (ideally from a receipt) and if this is all that's being done not necessarily who by in my view.

+1

£1000 for discs and pads!

That is mental - they are not difficult to fit and the cost will be waaaaay lower.

Couldn't agree more lads, anyone handy with a spanner?
I haven't a clue when it comes to diy... :?:

Have you tried any one of the recognised independent servicing specialists? e.g. Nine Excellence, etc?
I suspect they will both competitive on pricing and totally focused on providing the right service for your car...

I've had quotes from RSJ, Northway, JZM, Porsche Reading (lol) Paragon and Cridfords and they (Cridfords) were the cheapest, so the car is booked in for Thursday.

I'll let you know what my experience is like on the service side. Porsche Reading were double (or more) the cost of everyone - crazy!

Well I'm pleased to report that I had an excellent experience with Cridfords yesterday and would thoroughly recommend them based on my visit.

Decent bunch of guys, reasonably priced, nice premises, and an awesome drive through the Surrey hills to get there too!
