Heart condition and Porsche car insurance

After a spectacularly rough week I have now got to get around to notifying my Insurance company about my heart attack. Only 45 so this was a complete kick in the teeth and completely unexpected.
Does anyone have any experience with this and advice that would help in securing a premium that won't make it prohibitively expensive to keep my car? Really concerned this could spell the end of my ownership!

Any help appreciated while I sit and rest at home.

Cheers.

Consider speaking to British Heart Foundation. Also your own doctor.

There are many variants of the condition described as "heart attack" with differing post-event changes.

On the plus side, there are many people who have had a "heart attack" who are driving round without additional loading on their premiums or possibly a small loading.

You should also speak to you Insurance firm and ask if a disclosure of this event is required.

I wish you a good recovery.

When did that happen Thomas?? Sounds like you are OK now but guess it gave you a bit of a scare. Too much cricket mate - it's a stressful game as you know, especially when the nipper goes out to bat!
Let us know how you are getting on.
Not much help on the Insurance but can put you in touch with our broker who does the farm etc and also looks after the cars - they can often find the specialist companies who suit best.

Cheers.Ian

Sorry to hear about your illness and I hope you recover in double quick time.

You've probably checked this out already but here's the link to the Gov.uk site where it mentions what to do after suffering a heart attack (myocardial infarction):

https://www.gov.uk/heart-attacks-and-driving

I must admit I wouldn't have known: "You must stop driving for at least 1 month and only restart driving when your doctor tells you it's safe."

All the very best,

Sorry to hear of your heart attack Gengis. I suffered a BIG one in July.
The Gov web site gives you the information you need about driving again.
I had to wait until my Doc said it was OK to drive again.
Rules are slightly different for Cars and HGV / PSV.
I had to disclose the information about the heart attack to my
Insurance company but my premiums were NOT affected :D
Good luck with your recovery.

Thomas,
So sorry to hear this news my friend. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. Your far to young for all this malarkey sunshine!
All the best...

Thanks for the info guys.

Ian, Early days yet as it just happened on Monday evening whilst I was doing circuit training. I was home by Wednesday afternoon, which I still find incredible.

Defo too young Chief!

tbrown - I hope you're doing well. Good news on premiums

FRZ 911 - initially I was told I could drive after maybe a week. Unfortunately they revised this to a month stating that as it was a blue light taxi rather than a planned surgery they couldn't be sure of damage sustained to heart.

Cheshire 911 - got some good info from BHF, cheers. Funny thing is that only a month ago I did a sponsored mud run around Newcastle race course to raise money for the BHF. Looks like I got my money back already.

Circuit training :hand:
Too much of this dangerous exercise malarkey obviously the problem.
Hope recovery continues to go well - relying on you to keep the NE group all heading approx. in the same direction on our runs out.

Cheers...Ian

Cor blimey Thomas!

Sorry to hear about this but very happy you are able to tell us the tale. I can only assume this is perhaps an underlying hereditary condition?

Give a shout if you are stuck for anything and need some help.

Best regards, Keith

Wishing you a speedy recovery Thomas...look after yourselves guys.

A 'heart attack' is not a notifiable condition to DVLA and therefore not a requirement to report to insurer I'm led to believe. :dont know:

ETA: In my hasty response having returned from working away I forgot to give you my best wishes  My wife had a heart attack last year so I've been down that path with the added 'complication' of it occuring whilst we were abroad  Great what they can do now :what:

Im shocked and stunned Tom , but as Keith said very very happy that you are here to tell us about it .. , you aint exactly ott weight wise or unfit either , think ill lay off the bacon butties and cake from now on  pleased you are on the mend , "slow down" sit down , chill out , sounds like you will be ok Insurance wise ... atb  Keith

Thomas,

jkeith's just let me know about your little mishap, really sorry to hear about it but keep your chin up mate, keep looking after yourself with a critical eye on your diet

Hope to see you and the chaps in the New Year.

All the best,
Paul

How you feeling Thomas? Bet you've been watching loose women!

Keep your chin up
