GT's gone crazy... price madness?

I've obviously been living in a hole because I've only just noticed what's been happening to classic car prices - specifically my beloved 911.

For the first time in ages I've been looking at specialist Porsche prices. 3 years ago I was a whisker away from buying a 911 (996) GT3, 2005, 27k miles for £34k. Decided against it stupidly. I've just spotted the same motor with 34k miles for £74k.

This ones even more gutting - 911 (996) GT2. They were available when I was looking back then for £40k. Well £40-50k I guess but I had a peach lined up for the lower figure. What's happened now...

Needless to say this news has not brightened my day.

My question is what niche Porsche models are still good value and haven't gone insane? And/or is there room for even the inflated models to grow considerable further?

Give me hope I can/should still get involved at some point...

Yes I agree... you have had your head in a hole! Prices have gone crazy for whatever reason (my opinion is that it was when Porsche announced the new GT models would no longer have manual gearbox options.)

Anyway cars that still offer good value. The 987 Boxster is an excellent car, especially the 3.2/3.4 motors. I have just bought a fantastic 2008 car with possibly the best spec I've seen on a Boxster. This will be my daily. I've owned two Boxsters in the past and they were always great fun. Much better drive than my old 997 3.8S Cab.

Also early NA 996 cars are a steal, some going for as little as £10k. I think you could get a great spec car with great history for under £20k

Early 997 cars are now dirt cheap. They offer a great car for little money. People get scared off by the IMS/Bore score issues, but get them checked out and you are on a winner. Some models now in low £20k. And the big undervalued car is the non S 997, with 3.6 engine. Most of the performance of the S model but much cheaper. And I understand they don't suffer with bore scoring like it's bigger brother.

+1 on Isysman's comments. I think the Porsche bargain of the moment is the Gen 1 997 3.4 WITH A MANUAL GEARBOX. Just lower the suspension and leave is otherwise stock. In a few years you will be on a winner worth more than you paid for it.

I felt the same with my 05 360 spider 6spd sold it for £50k in april 14 and it would be selling for in excess of £75k now....Life

I think the 997 turbo is very undervalued if you can get one for early 40's even a tip i think you could even make 5k+ over the next couple of years and have an insane car to use.

however an early 2.5 / 2.7 boxster could be a big hitter they are approaching 20 years old soon so who knows what could happen.

Boxster 986 550 Anniversary. Less on the roads than a 997 GT3 RS.

Chris.

That's probably true but to be honest not many people will be able to tell it apart from any other 986.

I'm guessing you didn't see that an admittedly very low mileage, pristine example just went for £21200 + fees at a Silverstone auction?

Chris.

Mate just rang me up all excited
Have I got the car for you ...
Gen 2 GT3 (2006 – but a 996) club sport 25k miles, low owners etc etc
He wanted me to give him £70K – YES seven zero ...(special price just for me) needless to say I declined

Worlds gone mad.........mad I say ....

If I had 70k sitting doing nothing in a bank account I'd have snapped it up as it is a sure-fire investment for the next 5-10 years(and you can still enjoy it) :thumb:

Maybe at £65k but £70k is too much
£5k off 997 GT3 money

Gen 2 996 - is the least wanted in the range

Speaking of which, I don't think 997.1 GT3 has gone as mental like the others. I paid 67 for mine in 2011 and have just renewed Insurance with agreed value of 75. All pretty reasonable I think

It will also rise in value over the next 10 years.
