Just paid for a 2002 3.6 911 (996) yesterday. Picking up Friday.

Shopped around for Insurance this morning.

I am 49, live central Edinburgh, car parked on street, 10k miles fully comp, wife as additional driver.......

£195 with Direct Line

and

£185 with Churchill

Seems too good to be true......

I had budgeted £600

Experience of claiming with Direct Line/Churchill

Anyone had any experience claiming with Direct Line or Churchills ?

The price seems to good to be true but not sure what the service will be like ?

Any advice most welcome as I have to decide in the the next 48hrs

WOW thats un real , I live in a suburban hideaway, and car lives in the garage.

I pay £700 with bridal for me and wife , im 33 shes 30 .

Check the excess, it's usually double on cheaper policies.

I got £205 from Churchill for a 2005 C2S, and I'm located in Midlothian.

I've never claimed from them for my 911, but have positive experience of Direct Line for home Insurance.

996 Turbo, Mid-thirties, £250 XS, Cheaper to put parked on driveway than parked in garage, Wife as named driver, with Privilege.

£290 fully comp'

That is with a CD10 (4 month ban, £400 fine) 3 years ago.

So £200 sounds about right to me. :dont know:

If you are applying your full NCB I'd say it fits with the prices quoted or are they applying a 'classic' status in which case there is no NCB to accrue and its an additional car to another you have?

My wife had a terrible experience with a couple of claims with Churchill, neither were her fault, the last one was a total loss claim. They kept losing the paperwork and sending it around the country to different offices. Wouldn't use them if I had a choice. I'd go with direct line.

To Clarify , ive applied no NCD to this yr as i moved it off a multicar to its own policy ,its fully comp to £35k value and my excess is £50

You are 49 !!
:floor:

Sorry ....didn't mean to be rude in any way. Every time I renew my Insurance I am thinking how the hell I can only pay that for insuring my cars!!!???
You know you are getting old when you pay less and less Insurance premium !!!

Churchill and direct line are in the same group,
I recently had a crash for cash claim against me, direct line where brilliant, they told the claimant where to go and I kept my NCD,
however I'm now with admiral multi car
911c4s cayenne turbo S Mini Cooper all for £450 comp
That's less than most companies wanted for the cayenne alone
I've since discovered elephant are even cheaper :thumb:

I'm with Admiral and have been offered a very competitive renewal for my C4S and wife's Volvo V60 on multi-car. However, I'm having second thoughts and am talking to AIB and Classicline.

They are more expensive, but when you look under the surface of the cover and their policies, they seem to be better suited to a high-end car, so not comparing apples with apples to look at just the price.

For example, Admiral (and similar) have clauses about using their approved network of repairers should a claim arise and if you don't want to, you have to get estimates that they will evaluate and only payout for what it would have been at one of their repairers.

This can mean much more cost to you if you want to have your car repaired at a bodyshop and/or garage you trust. I also heard worrying opinion that the reason Admiral are so cheap is that they cut the repair costs to the bone which risks non-manufacturer parts (problem for me as I have a Porsche warranty) are used as well and 2nd hand

The Admiral quote is brilliant but it might not look so good if my C4S gets damaged, the £200 difference in premium for the 2 cars would be irrelevant, so I'm leaning towards either AIB or Classicline at the moment.

Decided to go with AIB on a 2-car deal, policy is underwritten by Hiscox and is very different from the policies provided by Admiral et al in many ways, some major, some subtle.

Dealt with Darren at AIB, knows his stuff and easy to work with, Megan Richards at Classicline also very good. Admiral was fine, but a call centre obviously.

Classicline (underwritten by Equity Red Star) slightly less on the premium but for me, AIB/Hiscox was more suitable/better value. Neither of these guys nor indeed ManningUK, Asset Trust and other specialists will come up on comparison websites of course.

So, back to the OP's point, are these cheap premiums too good to believe?

IMO it definitely pays to look beyond the price when comparing what AIB and Classicline offer to the mainstream guys on the comparison websites. You may still prefer to go for the cheaper policies, depends what you want :thumb:
