A discussion on a new owner thread prompted this thread for discussion....
I know this has been discussed to death in the past  but as always with the internet history becomes myth becomes fact etc..... So thought it worthwhile discussing current thoughts etc.
My main reasoning is so new potential owners get a balanced view and enter ownership eyes wide open and don't (as has happened to friends of mine) let the porsche dream be spoilt by worry / stress when they hear scare stories AFTER purchase for the first time.
I've not got time now to repeat facts re failure rates etc, I'm sure someone will have them to hand to post up and this is not really about bore scoring other than to remind people IMS baring failures and bore scoring are not related and 2 seperate issues.
During my research a few years ago I got in my head that total mileage on a model that may be affected was not the issue but whether at any point in its life it was stood and not used ie low mileage garage queens are more prone but a high mileage car then used little could also fail. Therefore comments often seen along the lines of "if it's done 80,000 miles it would have happened by now" are not true. It could have been a daily, clocked up the miles and then becomes a little used toy and fail.
The following video sums up "my" understanding.
Happy to be proved wrong / hear other points of view :dont know:
