997 wheels on a 991?

I have a base model 991 2 wheel drive coupe. I am interested in putting on the 19 inch sport classic wheels from the limited edition 997. Will these fit the 991?

Those wheels are just awesome (I have them on my 997.2), and I'm pretty sure that they'll fit your 991 - I shall check the brochure in the next few days, and revert.

The 19" wheel from the SportClassic (which is 2wd, but has the wide bodied body shell) is 19x8.5 ET55 fronts and 19x11.5 ET50 on the rear.

If your 991 were a wide-bodied car like the 4/4S then it ought to be fine as that wears 20x8.5 ET51 and 20x11 ET52 which ought to be close enough (spacers on the front might be called for, but probably not).

However, since you mentioned that your 991 is a C2, your rear wheel offsets are ET70. Consequently I am afraid that it isn't going to work - sorry.

My dealer tells me that the wheels can be ordered with either ET50 or ET67 for the rear wheels. My rear wheels are ET70 as you mentioned. With an offset of ET67, will the rear wheels fit the narrow body car? The person at the dealer tells me that they "should" fit but he did not sound certain.

The thing to remember is that the the wheels are a half inch wider, so the difference in total offset is over 9mm rim to arch. If it was 5mm then you could definitively say no issue as Porsche have a 5mm spacer as a factory option, so that is the ambiguity. However, a bit of Googling indicates that there are thread junkies out there with 10, 15 and even 20mm spacers on their rear wheels : supposedly without clearance issues. If those are accurate then you should be fine with the ET67.

11.5J ET50 are GTS fitment. They would leave you with 19mm extended to the outside and would necessitate you modding the wheel arch!

Standard fit for the NB 991 for 19" wheels are:

Front: 8.5J ET54
Rear: 11J ET69

Sport Classic 997 in 19" are:

Front: 8.5J ET55
Rear NB: 11.5J ET67
Rear WB (997.2): 11.5J ET60

You will have:

Front: 1mm less clearance on the inside, 1mm less on the outside
Rear NB: 4mm less clearance on the inside, 8mm extended on the outside
Rear WB: 3mm more clearance on the inside, 15mm extended on the outside

You can add spacers to increase the inner clearance, but remember this will increase the extension to the arch by the same amount. 1mm on the fronts would be identical to OE wheel offset. 4mm on the rear NB would be equal for the inner clearance, however, would extend 12mm towards the rear arch.
