This is our best look yet at the Porsche Macan, the new luxury crossover that will slot beneath the Cayenne in the Porsche range. As we had surmised from earlier spy photos, the Porsche Macan will carry over almost all of its styling cues from the larger Cayenne.

The Porsche Macan has the same wide, curved front grille, and bulging rounded headlights as its Cayenne big brother. The cars look similar in profile, too, with a lack of character creases on the tall doors and chrome trim around the windows. The main difference between the Porsche Macan and the Cayenne is the tail, where the new smaller model has an angular, steeply sloped rear windshield.

The liftgate sports a boomerang-like angle, and is topped by a prominent black spoiler. Our spy photographers also caught a look at the Porsche Macan Turbo, which apes the Cayenne Turbo with engorged front air intakes, quad exhaust tips, larger wheels, and larger brakes with red calipers.

It's not yet clear what engines will power the Porsche Macan, although we do know the new model is based on the Audi Q5. Given that, it's expected that Porsche will offer the Audi's 2.0-litre turbo-four and 3.0-litre supercharged V-6 engines. A Porsche Macan Turbo could conceivably use a version of the new twin-turbo V-6 found in the Porsche Panamera, reportedly tuned for as much as 350 bhp. Porsche previously announced an investment of $650 million at a plant in Leipzig, Germany, to build the Macan.

At a launch event for the refreshed Panamera earlier this year, Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller told us that the Porsche Macan will make its public debut at the Los Angeles auto show in November. Expect more details on the new model closer to then.
