So....after 10 weeks and 6 days since my engine let go, I have finally collected my car!! WOO HOO!!! :cloud9:
ance-Tap:
The bonnet, front bumper and chin spolier have all been resprayed, and to an exceptional standard, I have a perfectly fitted new windscreen and most importantly of all, I have a brand spanking new engine and clutch!
Total cost to me, £1,403. That was £1,338 to OPC Byfleet for their labour in stripping down the failed engine to find out what went wrong and £65 to Swiftcover for my windscreen excess.
All other costs were picked up by the dealer that I bought the car from back on 26th November last year. Take a bow, Sunningdale Motors. :thumb:
Whilst not a Porsche specialist (they normally deal in used Bentley / Rolls & Jag) they have been around since 1919, and I guess I'm lucky that they're reputable as the warrranty company weren't going to cough and they could've made me drag them through the courts.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think they've really done me any favours, they've just done the right thing. And at times it's been a bloody nightmare! I dealt with a guy called Normal there, who's a nice enough chap, but never returned my emails and often said he'd call me back and didn't. They damaged my car, they let me pick it up with too much oil, not enough coolant and a cracked windscreen first time round - but we've got there in the end.
I've taken the car for 60 trouble free miles tonight and to be fair, as well as looking like new at the front, it feels as tight as a drum. Running it in for 2,000 miles at less than 4,500 rpm is going to be painful, but I'll get there.
There is one major outstanding issue, which is that I don't have the paperwork for the engine yet - Norman's accounts lady has it and she's not in until Monday - but he assures me that it's all there and if not I can call Porsche GB in Reading (who organised the new engine) and they can provide the relevant documentation (which is also the 2 year warranty).
I still want to get the car checked over, but I think I'll do that once I've run it in as it'll need an oil change then anyway, so I'll drop it into my local OPC (Porsche Byfleet) in a few weeks for that. Gutted that I'm off to the US on Saturday for a week on business.....I'd rather be racking up the miles.
So sod the wasted train ticket, the traffic, the congestion charge, the extra time it'll take and the extortionate parking...I'm driving to work tomorrow!!
