Cayenne V8 2003 to 2007 (1st gen) - Coolant Pipe Failure

I am looking for owners of either none or turbo V8 engined Cayennes who have experienced a loss of coolant and/or a complete failure of the main engine plastic coolant pipes sited between the cylinder heads at the top of the engine.

Background
The original pipes are plastic and eventually crack/split. This can happen at any mileage or time in service. Whilst Porsche have issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) and introduced a considerably more durable alluminium pipe arrangement, they accept no responsibility. They consider the introduction of the upgraded alloy pipes part of their policy of continual review and improvement of the product. The truth is there has been so many failures, particularly in their largest market the US, Porsche had to do something, but to accept liability would prove very costly so any approach will be met with a 'standard' letter playing it down. The pipes are sold as a kit and cost approximately £550 added to which you have the OPC or Specialist labour, I understand you are looking at something in the order of £1600 for an OPC repair. If you are unfortunate to suffer a failure the pipes may not be the only parts requiring replacement. When the pipe(s) fail big time the loss of coolant is so great it contaminates the starter motor (£500 approx). There is also every possibility that the coolant will find its way down the back of the engine into the gearbox bell housing, contaminating the auto gearbox seal. This repair requires the removal of the gearbox assembly costing approximately £800. So you can see that the repair will cost between £1600 and worst case senerio £3000!!

It is an absobute disgrace that Porsche wash their hands of this issue.

So, if you have had or know someone who has experienced this failure, would you please email detail to me (Rod) at [email protected]

I would like detail of the repair carried out, a copy invoice would be great, with owner detail deleted if preferred. If no invoice, the age of the vehicle, mileage at the time of repair(s), parts replaced eg; alluminium pipe kit, starter, gearbox seal, name of the repairer, along with a return email address if possible please.

Thank you in anticipation of your assistance.
