Have we discussed the colour?? Midnight Metallic??? Are we sure? Looks like Ocean Blue to me (best and most rare colour for 2S of course)
Looks like Ocean to me too. Are you sure it's rare on the C2S though? Seems to me every other C2S I see (thats not many, but includes one tip on my street) is Ocean.

Thinking about something tells me Midnight Blue was not a standard/available colour when the S came about, but I may be wrong. I've never seen one, just a few 4S and NB's circa '95 vintage.

Ocean is very rare, a very nice one in W.London for sure
Is that where your old one lives now? The one on my street is a bit unloved, over 100k miles i think and looking it - scuffed alloys, scruffy paint, crap seals, but when the light hits those hips at night it looks :cloud9:

Can't be that many minters out there anymore...

Yep, in Chiswick, very close to another S in Panther Black which is very nice too. Always surprising when you see a scruffy 993 in London, somehow they just havent found 993uk yet!

I wouldnt be surprised if there are less than 100 total of each manual & tips out there now. They really only came to prominence amongst enthusiasts from say 2005 onwards IMO, so would have been 6-7 year and 2 911 generations old. Back in their day I cant see many would have been tucked away like with all older 911s they were used or crashed.

Panther Black - is that the official name of the flat or metallic black?

Show me a blue C2S with a nice interior!

Mine's Zenith with Black/Black and hardbacks :D. Oh and X71 Exclusive silver dials.

We have a winner!

When the C2S was launced for the 97MY, the only blues available were Ocean and Zenith (unless of course you ordered a 'special' paint scheme). The five metallic colours were the 2 x blues plus 'Arctic Silver', 'Arena Red' and (of course 'Black'.

In standard colours it came in Black, Pastel Yellow, Guards Red, Glacier White and Blue Turquise.

All names are the Porsche description from the brochure (WVK 191 920 97)

I have a Zenith C2S manual with under 50k miles with a classic grey/black interior. Whilst grey is not everyone's cup of tea, it does meld well with the Zenith exterior colour. I agree it looks less good with some other body colours.

I have previously owned Porsches with Marble Grey and Linen interiors, so in general I prefer lighter colours. I just find black interiors so gloomy, however practical and 'fashionable they might be. Purely a personal opinion....! And not intended to start a rock throwing contest....!

You can put whatever tyres you like on it, it'll still be horrible!

Now.....with all this discussion on paint where does this leave the super rare, gorgeous and exclusive (marmite colour) Vesuvius?

I would love to know everyone's thoughts on how many are still alive. The most I have ever seen in one place was Hatton last year where there were three of us, and I know of at least one more car in the UK.

Was Vesuvius the dealer launch colour for the 993S in the UK, Ben? In the UK it's not mega rare (of course all 993S are rare anyway) but in terms of total 993S production it must be very rare because it was a UK special edition?

I think both Vesuvius and Viola are great colours. I think a 993 needs to be a bold colour - Silver to me hides the curves too much (ducks for cover  )

A brave comment!!!! Obviously I totally agree with you (joining you under the table). Interestingly I also love the Viola colour, can't remember the guys name (James??) but there's a guy in the midlands with a beauty, saw it at Waddessdon in 2010.

Does anyone know the exact sales of colours??????

Thanks Ben, your memory does indeed serve you well

To continue this thread on it's way o/t  . Not sure on the colour breakdown total numbers of S and 4S' in the UK, seem to recall someone trying to search this out before but not sure what was unearthed, if anything :?: Would be interesting to know.

I've only ever seen/know of one other WB in Viola, that was at Specialist Cars of Malton a while back (for a pretty penny of course )

I do know of a guy in west yorkshire (Oliver) who has a vesuvius S that's fast approaching 200K miles and is known to frequent the nurburgring. Add this to the ones you know already! Didn't the Vesuvius S launch car pictured on all the UK literature have a red interior?

blatant plug for viola

James

That viola is very cool! Wish my C2S (black/black) was in that color

When I searched for my C2S last year, I found 3 in vesuvious over the course of 8 months. They didn't sell for a premium like the black and blue does (only if they have black interior) - all LHD in Germany/Italy.

It's going to be an awkward moment when the new happy owner of the blue C2S joins 911UK and find this thread ;)

Easy with the tip-bashing... satans gearbox... pfff

Ben, as a fellow C2S owner in Vesuvious , I can only confirm the view that it's a great colour - and apparently quite rare.

Is it 5 known in total in UK ?

Since my car is also a tip , can I assure those who are interested that it's a great way of changing gear when you're old and don't really care too much about m/sec/sec. Having spent a lifetime with manual boxes I fully understand the involvement - but I really don't miss it in the 993.

According to my local Independent , the selling price difference between Manual and Tip C2S is marginal. Condition and mileage is the differentiator.

Is it "Vesuvious" or "Vesuvius" ? :?:

Sorry, feeling a bit pedantic today.

Don't know, but it is 'Vesuvius' not 'Vesuvious'

:shooter:

...Only jokin'!
