Endoscope inspection camera ideas required.

Hi

What I am trying to do is inspect the cavity around my windshield to see if there is any serious corrosion.

I am "happy" to take a wing off and drill a small inspection hole. Drilling a hole is not an issue as long as it is small. I will rustproof it and seal with a bung afterwards.

I have seen some inspection cameras but they all seem to need reasonably large holes apart from one which has a 5.5mm diameter head. That one does not have a light on it though.

Does anyone here have any experience of these things. Should I just give up on the idea?

The problem I have is that if I inject the rustproofing fluid into the cavity it will make a future repair more difficult if there is in fact some serious rust.

I have a couple of bubbles on my sill for instance. With that I was able to get a light source into the sill through one of the slots that retain the cover and then look through a different hole and see enough of the corrosion to make a judgement call. In fact the corrosion was fairly minor so I gave the inside of the sill a good blasting and injected the bubbles with rustproofing fluid through a hypodermic needle from the outside. That should slow the corrosion down a lot if not pretty much stop it. At some point I will have the sill repainted and a proper inspection done then.

All the best

Berni

I have one with a 9.5mm illuminated head. But beware that they're generally fish-eye lenses so the "view" isn't perfect.

I would avoid removing the wings - there will be tell-tale signs visible to the trained eye which might raise eyebrows about why they were removed. That said if they've been off before then it doesn't matter

I have a notion of buying one of these myself. Could you post a link to the one that you have please Phelix. :)

Using a laptop as the viewing screen seems costs effective but note that both have larger heads.

Indeed, you need a head that will fit into a spark plug opening and still be able to be moved around.

The one that Connie Beecham uses in Holby City would be ideal! :?:

Thanks for thay Phelix!

What do you think of the specification of this-

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=257206

And this-

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=259804

I have the maplin one. I used as my "eyes" when swapping out the starter motor. It enabled me to see the top bolt and then get an allen headed socket in it. Without it would have been near impossible.

The pathetic LED lights on it should not be relied on though, you'll need a lot of light from another source to get a usable image.

Was that the £40 one or the £150 one Rossatron?

Reawaken an old endoscope thread

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an endoscope with illumination (or better still one I could borrow :) ).

I am trying to get my newly restored Fiat Dino registered with the DVLA with a colour change but the original V5C which had the chassis number did not have the engine number.

DVLA have now decided they want a photograph of the engine number ! But there is no room to get a picture - thinking I might be able to get a picture with an endoscope ?

Cheers

seem to be cheap as chips so bought this one (kismet) :)

I bought a camera off ebay for 60.00 quid second hand, to be honest it was a waste of time, I think you have to go high quality

I used it for various jobs and it failed 9 times out of ten

It was like a handset model with built in screen

It did help me spot the fact that the small boys had built a nest on the front left cylinder but it took a lot of wrangling

 9year thread resurrection.

Achtung - Where is he now :dont know:

There seem to be loads of these on the market - not sure why no one saw them on Amazon nine years ago ;-)
