Porsche has officially revealed the 911 GT2 RS, and proclaimed it the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car the brand has ever built.
Intended to sit at the summit of the 911 range, the RS gets an extra 90bhp over the standard GT2 and weighs 70kg less.
The stripped-out Porsche gets to 62mph in 3.5 seconds, will hit 124mph in under 10 seconds and won't stop accelerating until 205mph.
In case those figures failed to lend the GT2 RS enough high-performance credibility, Porsche has put the car round the formidable Nurburgring Nordschleife clocking a deeply impressive time of seven minutes 18 seconds – some eight seconds quicker than a Nissan GTR.
As expected, the RS gets a tuned version of the GT2's twin-turbo 3.6-litre flat six engine. Its 620bhp output is directed to the rear wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox. The hardcore 911's mechanical limited-slip differential and a tweaked stability management system are responsible for keeping all that power on the road, and composite ceramic brakes ensure the car can be brought to a halt.
To ensure the RS stands out from the 911 crowd Porsche has adorned it with matt-black carbon-fibre reinforced components, and used the material in the bonnet, rear wing and seats to help save that precious 70kg.
UK buyers of the 911 GT2 RS will get Porsche's vehicle tracking system and a complimentary driving course at the manufacturer's Experience Centre at Silverstone in return for the £164,107 asking price. Just 500 examples of the car will be built.
The RS will be officially unveiled to the public at the Moscow Auto Fair in August, but don't be surprised if Porsche has sold the entire production run by then.
0-99mph in 6.8sec??? Awesome. I think the only place where you can fully exploit all this power and acceleration is an airstrip. Even some of the straights in Silverstone is a bit too short!

You're not trying hard enough. _________________ I see dead pixels.
