I'm guessing that Porsche are going from its famous boxer 6 engine to a larger displacement boxer 8 engine. Think about the 997 MkII - it wasn't just a facelift. A practically all new engine, new transmission, wait, forget that, it was pretty much new everything. By now the engines are very heavily tuned, and it's going to be hard to get the NA engines any faster. The solution - move to a larger displacement. Simples! It's exactly what TVR did.

What do you all think about this?

but look what happened to TVR :bandit:

although the question is emissions and most manufacturers are moving away from large displacement and Porsche do a better job of tunig NA engines that anyone else, so I suspect they still have a few more tricks under wrap just yet

they do run 4.0 litre F-6 variants in Motorsport

Just wondering what may be next - as the MkII 997 may be the pinnacle of their tuning (and they've done bloody well) which they released to show the world what they could do with a boxer 6, before moving onto a boxer 8.

Just a thought...

More likely is an increased use of forced induction, whether turbo or super charger (or VW TSI's both!)

After all, the next Boxster is apparently having a 2.0T from VW/Audi for emissions sake. While Audi have dropped S4 V8 for smaller supercharged V6. Even BMW have added twin turbos to the 330 to make the 335.

Of course the could bypass all of these, hybrids and hydogen included and go straight to "Herr Fusion"

Only problem would be the 88mph top speed ;-)
